Test Specialist

 

Join our team of leaders in electrical power system maintenance, repair, testing, engineering, & training. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Test Specialist to join our team in several locations. Shermco Services is accredited by NETA.

Job Responsibilities and Expectations:


  • Field Service Test Technicians travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data of low, medium and high voltage (480 Volt to 600 kV) electrical systems.
  • Able to travel to customer jobsites across the state and bordering states.
  • Instrument transformer tests
  • Perform wiring installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, relaying schemes, DFR equipment, SCADA systems, distribution automation systems and associated communication equipment. 
  • Perform function point to point testing of substation control circuits on relay panel, transformers & circuit breaker changeouts.
  • Read and interpret control prints, schematic and wiring diagrams. 
  • Support differential and distance relay testing.


Minimum Qualifications: to qualify for consideration, you must meet each of the following minimum qualifications and requirements.


  • Prefer an Associate’s degree from an accredited 2-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or a EE Degree from an ABET accredited college, similar experience, and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee)
  • NETA Certification (I) or similar desired or Electrician license preferred
  • Must have at least 3 or more years of relevant experience performing Protection & Controls testing & troubleshooting
  • Must have good PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Excel
  • Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures
  • Prefer OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training; training on each can be provided by Shermco
  • Must be able to drive daily locally/regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel


Other Requirements:


  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check
  • All offers are conditioned on acceptable results from a background check and drug and alcohol screening. 
  • Must be able to crawl, climb, stand, and lift to 100 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must be able to pass a fit for duty physical exam
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, and currently have and be able to maintain a safe driving record
  • Must be available for regular overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel
  • U.S. passport & TWIC card a plus
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights.
  • If applying for position, must be eligible to work in the U.S. without need for employer sponsored visa (work permit).
  • Must be willing to travel; minimum 50%
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
