About You

You are curious, creative, passionate about sustainability, and want to build products that impact consumer goods at a global scale. You are comfortable independently leading all aspects of a design process from conception to completion. You thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment and enjoy working with distributed teams. You’re able to distill complexity into clarity, see the big picture and business context, and devise creative and pragmatic solutions.

Our ideal candidate will have an understanding of component-based architectures and some experience writing semantic, accessible HTML and maintainable, performant CSS. You have a comprehensive understanding of interaction design, and enjoy pairing with engineers to translate design to code that results in great user experiences. This role is for someone whose design process is grounded in standards and best practices without being dogmatic.

The Role

As a Senior Product Designer for Product Innovation at Higg, you will be responsible for working collaboratively and iteratively with product owners/managers, engineers, research scientists, and others from initial concept development through product release and beyond.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Communicating the user experience at various stages of the design process with wireframes, flow diagrams, storyboards, mockups, and/or high fidelity prototypes.

  • Working as an independent contributor who needs little supervision and can lead all aspects of the design process from conception to completion.

  • Helping maintain and scale our product design system.

  • Working closely with product owners and engineers to understand requirements and deliver high-quality design solutions that are buildable and coded to spec.

  • Navigating complexity to deliver intuitive, accessible and easy-to-use designs for customers ranging from sustainability novices to seasoned experts.

Requirements

  • Curiosity, an ability to think creatively, and a passion for learning new things.

  • 5-8 years of experience designing digital products, with a preference for experience working in SaaS or enterprise software.

  • Experience designing for data-rich products, and incorporating data visualizations

  • Experience designing and building public facing websites that work elegantly across commonly used browsers and devices

  • Proficiency in user-centered design methods, exploration, storytelling, and detailed interaction design

  • Examples that demonstrate your problem solving ability and a deep appreciation for simple and usable interfaces

  • Experience collaborating with other designers and across departments.

  • Passionate for solving problems from big picture strategy to the tiny details

  • You enjoy collaborating with a diverse group of stakeholders – including product owners, researchers, designers, and engineers – on complex problems

  • Knowledge of web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and their impact on the feasibility of design solutions

  • Understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience working with sustainability professionals and/or sustainability SAAS products;

  • Experience developing a core set of UX metrics and success criteria to analyze products post-launch and inform design/UX optimization efforts.
