Position Summary

Higg Co  is looking for a well-rounded and forward-thinking HR Director to join a growing team. You will form relationships and develop trust throughout the organization, and will partner with designated business units to understand their respective strategic objectives and challenges. In addition to operating as an internal trusted advisor and resource, you will work with executive management to develop and deliver organizational and people-related programs and initiatives to support and enable Higg Co’s talent strategy and strategic business objectives.


  • Location: Higg Co is primarily a remote workforce. This position location is flexible.

Position Details

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strategic Partner and Change Agent

    • With leadership team, creates a vision for the culture and talent strategy

    • Provides guidance and input on workforce planning and succession planning, to include championing effective communications.

    • Recommends, implements, and reviews diversity and inclusion solutions that reduce bias and ensure equity and fairness in talent decisions.

    • Provides guidance and support in planning and executing initiatives to positively impact employee engagement, such as employee surveys, focus groups, and events.

    • Proactively analyzes employee trends and metrics, developing programs and solutions as appropriate.

    • Serves as a strategic thought partner to leaders and managers.


  • Employee Advocate & Support 

    • Strives to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.

    • Quickly responds to employee concerns and issues.

    • Identifies training and coaching needs, recommends solutions, and follows up post-intervention to measure effectiveness.

    • Serves as an advisor for career development.

    • Ensures all employees have equitable access to reach their full potential.


  • HR Operational Expert

    • Maintains personnel records - managing HR documents and personnel files (e.g. employment records and onboarding guides, training documents) and updating internal databases.

    • Provides administration for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, LTD/STD benefits, 401k, Payroll, monthly reporting, Annual enrollment, new hire enrollment

    • Manages employment related records: OSHA logs, Employee Training, Required Reporting

    • Manages employee lifecycle- Recruiting, Interviewing, On-boarding, Retention and Termination

    • Leads organization wide performance management in partnership with managers (semi-annual reviews, coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).

    • Participates in leading the annual salary planning process for assigned business units, ensuring an objective and equitable process.

    • Manages and resolves employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations. Escalate issues to leadership and counsel as appropriate.

    • Identifies risks and partners with leadership and counsel to proactively mitigate and or develop appropriate resolutions.

    • Interprets and explains personnel policies and procedures to managers and employees and updates Employee Handbook and other policies and procedures


Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills

  • Education: Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in HR, Business, Industrial Relations, Organizational Development, or related field.

  • Experience: 

    • At least eight years related experience in a progressive HR organization with at least three years in the role of an HR leader engaging with multiple levels within the company -- executives through employees.

    • Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously

    • HR Certification (e.g. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) is an asset

    • Extensive generalist background with experience in multiple areas: talent and organizational development, employee relations & engagement, performance management, HR operations, learning & development, compensation & benefits, employment law, etc

    • Outstanding influencing, communication, and relationship-building skills

    • Excellent analytical skills; successfully uses data to extract insights and inform decision-making

    • Solid knowledge of employment laws and regulations required; multi-national knowledge required

    • Demonstrated success of establishing credibility and trust with diverse client groups

    • Prior experience in growing, dynamic company; familiarity with software and/or sustainability sector preferred

  • Skills:

    • Business acumen: learns the business and uses insight about the environment to improve talent and business outcomes.

    • Talent management: applies knowledge to impact talent acquisition, engagement, development, and succession strategies.

    • Understanding of organizational development, training, leadership, performance management, and change management theories, methods, and practices

    • Applies judgment to data to support business decision making

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

    • Strong consultative orientation

    • Ability to motivate and influence others; team-oriented and skilled at working within a collaborative environment

    • Strong facilitation skills with the ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language

    • Ability to generate innovative solutions

    • Ability to establish credibility and trust

    • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute in a high-pressure environment, adapt to change and maintain flexibility

    • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

    • Consistently demonstrates respect for inclusion, diversity, and ethics
