Product Manager

Airspace Link Inc.

Airspace Link Inc. is hiring a Product Manager to lead the creation of tools and services used for the management of local airspace, commercial drone logistics, and beyond visual line of sight operations. Yes, the jetsonian-future is finally upon us and we need help creating the future of unmanned aerial vehicles!

This is a role for someone with experience driving product strategy and supporting the cross-functional team responsible for improving it. You will have touch-points across a wide cross-section of the company, reporting to the CTO.

Airspace Link is headquartered in Detroit, MI with remote associates sprinkled across the US. We’d love for candidates to be centered out of our Detroit office – close to the hub of the “vision” but understand that the best person for the job may live somewhere else. In short, the right remote candidates are considered, but with all things being equal, preference may be given to local applicants.

We strongly encourage candidates of all different backgrounds and identities to apply. Each new hire is an opportunity for us to bring in a different perspective, and we are eager to further diversify our company. Airspace Link is committed to building an inclusive, supportive place for you to do the best and most rewarding work of your career.

About the Job

At the highest level, this role is responsible for setting the product’s vision and strategy. The job is to clearly articulate the business value to the team, so each stakeholder understands the intent behind new and existing product enhancements; ensuring product engineering is a calm, deliberate, and concerted effort.

The Product Manager manages the release process and dependencies in and across release phases and milestones. The candidate will coordinate all activities required to bring new functionality to market. This involves bridging gaps between different functions within the company and aligning key teams – namely marketing, sales, customer success, and engineering.

The Product Manager prioritizes features by ranking them against the strategic goals and initiatives. You must make difficult trade-off decisions based on the value new features will deliver. You work closely with engineering on technical specifications and ensure teams have all the information needed to deliver a complete product to market.

Much of the work will be proactive but fast-paced. Here are some examples of what you might be working on:

  • Work with company leadership to translate market signals, customer feedback, service desk issues and known requirements into release backlog and product roadmap
  • Support engineering team in sprint planning and execution to ship new impactful features for our products
  • Manage from concept, to design, sample production, testing, forecast, cost, mass production, promotion, support, and finally product end of life
  • Deliver the operating plan: the achievement of growth objectives including market share, revenue, profit, and return on investment for all the channels/categories of business and/or key customers
  •  Own the ongoing process of improving key product usage metrics
  • Work with 3rd parties to assess partnerships and licensing opportunities

About You

You’re creative. You’re organized. You’re experienced. You’ve done this before. You want to do this again. You absolutely want to do it for us.

You must be transparent about your prioritization and roadmap process. You must be able to say “no” but explain why. You must be a ruthless prioritizer. You must bring evidence-based decision-making to your communication.

Everyone at Airspace Link is here to do the best work of their career, so we work on systemic problems and try to avoid individual blame.

We’re looking for a clear analytical thinker. Someone who can visualize the end from the beginning and spot interesting tidbits along the way.  You’re adept at enhancing those areas that create raving customers or knocking down issues before anyone knows they exist. You’ll fend off complexity and find a simpler path. You’ll learn from us and we’ll learn from you. You are an expert with respect to the competition.

You must be willing to own the product and what is required to deliver it. Unless you’re specifically raising the alarm to signal otherwise, we’ll expect that you have what you need to guide the team and are able to do what needs to be done to ship.  You’re someone who thrives on a high level of autonomy and responds with a high level of accountability.

We aren’t looking for ideological clones, but we are looking for people who share our basic values and beliefs about how to write good software and craft great products.

We value people who can take a stand yet commit even when they disagree. We subject ideas to rigorous debate, but we remember that we’re here for the same purpose: to do good work together. Charging the trust battery is part of the work.

About Our Pay & Benefits

We support a life well lived away from work. None of our benefits are about trapping people at the office or cajoling them into endless overtime. Just the opposite. We’re all about reasonable working hours, ample vacation time, fitness, wellness, and healthy living.
