Geospatial Solution Engineer

Airspace Link, Inc.

Hello!

Airspace Link, Inc. is hiring a Geospatial Solution Engineer to help us build platforms for our AirHub product suite. Our AirHub products support our mission of creating safe and effective drone operations that are in harmony with the communities in which they fly. Yes, the Jetsonian future is finally upon us and we need help creating the future of unmanned aerial vehicles!

This is a position for an experienced Geospatial Solution Engineer, but you don't have to be a rock star, a ninja, or a superhero to apply. In fact, if you self-identify in any of those categories, we'd rather you don't. We're looking for someone with a strong track record simply designing and implementing the host environment and services that provide a foundation for our apps. If you deliver solid and reliable work, you have the experience we're looking for. You will be collaborating with like-minded professionals and report to the CTO.

The Airspace Link team is headquartered in Detroit, MI and, most importantly for you, it is where most of our fun-loving crew works. This is also where most of the engineering action is. We recognize the best person for the job may live somewhere else so we're open to you virtually working side by side with the core team.

We strongly encourage candidates of all different backgrounds and identities to apply. Each new hire is an opportunity for us to bring in a different perspective, and we are eager to further diversify our company. Airspace Link is committed to building an inclusive, supportive place for you to do the best and most rewarding work of your career.

About the Job

As an emerging startup, our tech teams are small but fast and nimble. You'll be working with designers and engineers to build out and maintain a versatile and well-tuned geospatial platform that will serve as the engine that supports frequent shipments of geospatial features, services and data. We work on a regular cadence of bi-weekly sprints within larger defined epics.

We are currently in a phase of expanding our geospatial environments even further into the cloud and there are many opportunities to push the limits of core geospatial technology by harnessing all that the cloud has to offer. Exciting!

Much of the work will be proactive and fast paced, but never frantic. We value a calm company and deliberate, concerted effort. Here are some examples of what you might be working on:

·         Installation, configuration, and administration of full stack of geospatial technology (web apps, web services, database)

·         Creating and optimizing geospatial map and geoprocessing services

·         Supporting the core cloud resources required to host full geo stack (virtual machines, data stores, function apps, identity management, et)

·         Research and integrate new cloud and geo resources, technology and methods to extend and optimize the stack

·         Work with developer and data teams to support existing and new solution requirements

·         Troubleshoot technical issues as necessary

About You

Everyone at Airspace Link is here to do the best work of their career, so we work on systemic problems and try to avoid individual blame.

We’re looking for a clear analytical thinker. Someone who can visualize the end from the beginning and spot interesting tidbits along the way.  You’re adept at enhancing those areas that create raving customers or knocking down issues before anyone knows they exist. You’ll fend off complexity and find a simpler path. You’ll learn from us and we’ll learn from you.

Unless you’re specifically raising the alarm to signal otherwise, we’ll expect that you have what you need to fulfill your responsibilities and are able to do what needs to be done to deliver and support.  You’re someone who thrives on a high level of autonomy and responds with a high level of accountability.

We aren’t looking for ideological clones, but we are looking for people who share our basic values and beliefs about how to build creative solutions that are sustainable and perform well. You will be expected to step up to the plate with enough cloud-infrastructure chops to in the staging and roll-out geospatial resources. This will require working in:

·         Amazon Web Services

·         Microsoft Azure

·         Esri ArcGIS Online

We’ll also call upon you to bring the following qualifications:

·         Fluency in implementing and support solutions in cloud environments

·         Experience with standing up and supporting full geospatial stacks

·         Knowledge of integrating web services with high availability and high volume business apps

·         Understanding of geospatial data and geoprocessing services

·         Familiarity with Esri ArcGIS Enetrprise Products

·         Aptitude with core cloud resource (virtual machines, data stores, function apps, identity management, api management, et)

·         Bringing some python to the game would be a big plus!

We value people who can take a stand yet commit even when they disagree. We subject ideas to rigorous debate, but we remember that we’re here for the same purpose: to do good work together. Charging the trust battery is part of the work.

About Our Pay & Benefits

Let’s get real for a moment. Airspace Link, by all definitions, is a startup. Some may view this as a professional risk. Others may view this as a unique opportunity in an emerging industry to get a fresh start with a huge potential upside. We hope you’re the latter.

We aim to be competitive but won’t be making any headlines. We offer a full health benefit package that is tiered depending on your tenure with Airspace Link. In other words, our benefits move from good, to better, to best.

We support a life well lived away from work. None of our benefits are about trapping people at the office or cajoling them into endless overtime. Just the opposite. We’re all about reasonable working hours, ample vacation time, fitness, wellness, and healthy living.

How To Apply

Please send an application tailored to this position that speaks to us. Introduce yourself as a colleague. Show us the future. We’d like to hear about some of the things you’ve been working on or are interested in.

We value good communication, and solid writing is part of that. We hope to see a well-constructed cover letter along with your resume/CV. There’s no prize for being first, so take your time. We’ve hired candidates on the strength of their writing alone, so don’t overlook this simple request.

We’d also love to see examples of your handiwork. We appreciate that it can be hard to share representative examples when you’ve been working on a secure stack or with commercial solutions, so anything you can scrape together will be good… a side project is great, even a well-crafted diagram that illustrates what you’ve built!

Interested? We’d love to get to know you! Please submit all materials along with your application at https://app.trinethire.com/jobs/29360-geospatial-solution-engineer
