Sterling Communications is looking for a bright, tech-savvy account executive with a strong interest in public relations and digital marketing to join our Silicon Valley team. Sterling isn't a traditional public relations firm. We’re a values-driven company crafting compelling stories to share with press/analysts, on various social networks, in website content, and through podcasts. Our employees play a crucial role in helping Sterling’s tech and social impact clients attract and engage with the right audiences. We achieve this by blending decades of PR experience with a broad mix of creative services that amplify our PR programs and digital marketing campaigns. Our clients—ranging from small early-stage startups to established mid-sized companies and non-profits—appreciate how we build and maintain relationships through real, personable interactions and clear, strategic thinking.

But enough about us. We want to know about you. The ideal candidate will have agency experience in a PR and/or marketing environment, excellent writing skills, exceptional detail orientation, and a growing interest in technology. He or she will value the power of collaboration but also understand the importance of being self-driven.

At Sterling, account executives manage the day-to-day tactics on multiple client accounts and responsibilities often include:

  • Executing and monitoring monthly scope of work activities
Integrating digital marketing tactics with traditional PR strategies to ensure a unified and cohesive brand message
  • Building active media and analyst relationships
  • Researching and pitching editorial, award and podcast opportunities
  • Assisting with major campaigns such as product launches, funding announcements, and mergers/acquisitions
  • Utilizing social media tools to help clients engage with key audiences
  • Drafting PR and marketing content such as press releases, speaking abstracts, newsletters,  blog posts, and social content
  • Creating engaging, SEO-optimized content for client's websites and social media platforms
  • Using digital analytics tools to track and analyze campaign performance and make data-driven decisions to optimize results
  • Coordinating with the creative team to design marketing material for various digital platforms

While a passion for communications and technology is a start, we’re also looking for candidates with:

  • At least two years of public relations or marketing experience, ideally in an agency environment
  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, marketing or related communications field
  • Superb communication skills and the ability to translate creative thought into original writing
  • Confidence to lead internal and external meetings with ease
  • Natural curiosity and passion to deeply understand something, whether it be a client’s business, a market or industry, or a software tool
  • Experience working with Google Workspace, MS Office, Slack, Zoom, Business Wire, Muckrack, Mail Chimp, Hootsuite, Canva, Riverside, Adobe Creative Cloud or other digital marketing tools
  • The ability to learn new technologies and tools independently and with minimal guidance
  • Basic project management experience, preferably involving multiple people and/or multiple groups
  • Comfort with data and the ability to review a report, construct a simple Excel or Google Sheets spreadsheet, summarize the data, and draw some basic conclusions
  • B2B social media and digital marketing experience (ideally)

Our close-knit team strives to create an environment that is supportive, challenging, and fun. With regular happy hours, ongoing professional development, and community outreach activities, Sterling focuses on the professional and personal growth of all team members to help them reach their career goals. Accessibility to senior team members means that mentoring and coaching are woven into the fabric of our culture. We also offer competitive salaries, great healthcare plans, flex time off (no cap), 401(k) and we have yet to lay off a single employee in our 30-plus years.

This is a remote role with occasional travel to California and as needed for clients (less than 5%). We are looking to fill this role with someone living in the Pacific time zone (US only) to ensure team continuity and availability for clients.
