Quincy Data and McKay Brothers are seeking a talented attorney who can dive right into the deep end of our market data distribution business. We are a profitable, industry-leading firm serving banks, hedge funds and trading firms. This is a new position, and a great opportunity to make the role your own.

From the start, you will be counted on to make direct and impactful contributions to both day-to-day operations and special projects. The role presents a unique opportunity to take on a wide variety of projects and responsibilities, reporting to our lead counsel. Although the requisite industry experience is with market data, we are looking for a versatile generalist.

Our global in-house legal team is geographically dispersed (from offices in Oakland and Paris) but works closely together. Your ability to work independently but cohesively with the team and company management is essential.  You will also have the opportunity to work with a cadre of exceptional external counsel.  The Company’s geographic reach includes the major financial exchanges in US, Canada, Europe, UK, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, PRC, India and is continually expanding.

Your primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Become the legal team’s resident expert on all things market data: understand how our exchange and subscriber agreements impact our business strategies, and vice versa, and confidently guide our internal teams and senior management on legal and contractual obligations and opportunities;

  • Collaborate with the client onboarding/client services team on new product roll-outs, client and exchange negotiations and new service implementations;

  • Exercise your fluency in both legal matters and technology tools to make automation and process improvements to support revenue growth;

  • Deliver thoughtful and concise advice on an array of legal issues, working seamlessly with the global legal team and directly with the co-founders and other senior executives—there is something new all the time;

  • Take ownership: proactively spot issues, propose workable solutions and drive company leadership toward consensus.

You will have:

  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and active membership in at least one US state bar;

  • 8+ years of practicing legal experience, at least 4 of which are within the context of financial exchange operations, trading and/or market data distribution;

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. You must be able to articulate complex legal issues in a precise and straightforward manner.  You must be exceptionally well organized;

  • Experience launching new services in global markets.

Compensation & Benefits:

The Oakland, CA base salary range for this full-time position is $170-230k. Our salary ranges are determined by role, career level, and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

The Company provides a comprehensive benefits package including:  generous medical, dental & vision policies; 401(k) plan, currently with a company match; paid vacation; life insurance; AD&D; commuter benefits; and EAP.
