DuBois Integrity Academy is hiring a Vision Impaired Teacher for the 2024-2025 academic school year. DuBois Integrity STEM Academy’s academic program has two pillars that support substantial achievement improvement:  STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) combined with Blended Learning.  We use theme-based, interdisciplinary, integrated curricula to facilitate instruction and learning. A combination of tightly-controlled behavioral studies and groundbreaking neurological research supports theme-based education as a means to improve the opportunities for success for all learners.

The Vision Impaired Teacher will provide instruction for students with disabilities that supports learning and results in decreased behavior and increased student achievement.

Essential Duties 

  • Provides a comprehensive educational program as stipulated by the Individualized educational Plan (EIP) to meet the needs of students who are visually impaired, legally blind, or blind.
  • Assesses and documents students’ educational needs to develop and implement appropriate instructional plans.
  • Develops appropriate instructional materials for students with visual impairment.
  • Utilizes acceptable and innovative instructional techniques and practices.
  • Plans in-service activities for school district personnel.
  • Prepares Individual Education Plans, eligibility determinations, etc. and conducts the meeting required to complete these plans.
  • Facilitates the identification of students with visual impairment by directly screening those students or training aides to perform the screening function within the school district.
  • Refers students to a vision care specialist when necessary.
  • Facilitates the attainment of special instructional materials.
  • Participates in activities designed to promote professional growth.
  • Consults with the local school district personnel concerning matters pertaining to the education of students with visual impairment.
  • Maintains records of services rendered to the school district.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Works with parents/guardians in all aspects of the student’s educational program
  • Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications
  • Uses technology to support instruction
  • Serves as a resource to general education faculty, administrators, and related services personnel
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Education: Master’s Degree required

Certification/Licensure: Must hold valid GA Visually Impaired (K -12) Teacher certificate

Experience: 0-1 year classroom experience required

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to assess, evaluate, and administer appropriate testing as it pertains to VI students
  • Ability to provide and set up appropriate learning environment
  • Proficient in administrative/record keeping duties
  • Ability to provide direct instruction in the unique curriculum
  • Ability to professionally respond to inquiries from the public and other agencies
  • Ability to maintain professional standards
