DuBois Integrity Academy is hiring an Elementary Small Group Autism Unit (AU Teacher. The position is responsible for providing specialized, intensive instruction to elementary students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in small-group settings. DuBois Integrity Academy's academic program has two pillars that support substantial achievement: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) combined with Blended Learning. We use theme-based interdisciplinary, integrated curricula to facilitate instruction and learning.
This position focuses on implementing individualized education programs (IEPs), adapting curriculum to meet unique learning needs, and developing social, communication, and behavioral skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Instructional Delivery: Implement individualized or small-group instruction tailored to students’ IEP goals and specific needs.
- IEP Implementation: Develop, implement, and monitor progress on IEP objectives, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Behavior Management: Utilize positive behavior support strategies, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), or other specialized methodologies to foster a structured, safe, and positive learning environment.
- Data Collection & Assessment: Maintain detailed records on student behavior, performance, and academic progress to make informed instructional decisions.
- Curriculum Adaptation: Modify the general education curriculum to make it accessible for students with autism.
- Collaboration: Work closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, therapists (speech, occupational), and parents to ensure consistent support.
- Communication Skills: Communicate frequently and effectively with parents regarding progress and strategies.
Qualification & Skills
- Certification: Valid state teaching certification in Special Education (specifically Autism or Comprehensive Exceptional Children).
- Experience: Previous experience working with elementary-aged students with autism or developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge: Understanding of evidence-based instructional methods for autism, data analysis, and classroom management techniques.
- Abilities: High emotional energy, patience, creativity, and the ability to work under pressure.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 40-50 pounds and physically move quickly to ensure student safety
- Georgia State Certification as an Elementary Teacher
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Master's Degree in a related area preferred
