Summary

As a strategic leader, the Director of Engineering oversees the company’s engineering staff in our Orlando office.  The role provides technical leadership, direction to staff, and is responsible for customer/partner relationships. The position ensures that these functions are led in a way that aligns with the company’s values and future goals.

Essential Job Functions

  • Introduce new and existing customers to the company’s technical capabilities
  • Identify new areas to employ the company’s engineering expertise
  • Solicit RFP’s from new and existing customers for engineering services
  • Prepare and present quotes and proposals
  • Design and manage the requirements for large complex systems and drive the development from inception to completion
  • Utilize engineering best practices to provide expert technical guidance for engineering initiatives
  • Collaborate with critical business functions including manufacturing, quality assurance, and technical support
  • Manage multiple projects and recommend improvements to the project management process
  • Build the engineering team’s resources and processes to meet the business objectives
  • Develop and manage the department budget
  • Mentor team members on technology, career growth, and business skills
  • Develop efforts to consistently improve the department
  • Represent engineering department to the company at large

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Possesses 10+ years of directly related engineering experience
  • Minimum five years of leadership experience in engineering design with industrial and process control systems
  • Experience in developing and growing technical products or services
  • Minimum five years of experience working on designs and implementation of systems using safety rated control systems
  • Experience with large scale safety rated control systems meeting ISO and ASTM standards
  • Experience working with international suppliers, designers, and engineers including remote engineering teams
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business or Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Experience in a start up or turn around environment
  • Product launch experience
  • Has worked within a private equity company or has board level exposure
  • Cost accounting skills
  • P&L responsibility a plus

 

Availability

·         Must be able to work overtime (evenings/weekends) as needed

 

Travel

  • This position requires 30% travel availability
  • Travel could be off-site, out of state, or international
  • Must have a valid passport

 

Physical Requirements

Employee will be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Will also be required to bend, twist, reach, push, pull, and operate office machinery. Must be able to lift up to thirty pounds.  This person will also need to travel outside of the state and country.
