Who is Persevere?
We provide a community of care to those who are involved in the correctional/rehabilitative life cycle. An affiliate of Vant4ge, we are Persevere, a national non-profit organization providing a coding education program that not only teaches inmates and parolees how to code, but also provides job search and job placement services, instruction in the soft skills necessary for the work environment, life skills education, mentoring support and entrepreneurial training for starting their own businesses and marketing their coding services to companies nationwide.
Job Overview
The Executive Director will be thoroughly committed to Persevere’s mission. Primary responsibilities of this role are fundraising, marketing and community outreach, as well as organizational leadership. This is a full-time, remote position with excellent benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, matching 401k and a generous paid time off program.

General Responsibilities
Board Governance: Works with the board in order to fulfill the organization mission

Responsible for developing, maintaining and supporting a strong Board of Directors; serving as ex-officio of each committee; seeking and building board involvement with strategic direction for both ongoing local operations as well as for a national rollout

Responsible for leading Persevere in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors
-
Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions

Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach

Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that Persevere can successfully fulfill its Mission into the future

Responsible for implementation of Pesevere’s programs that carry out the organization’s mission
-
Responsible for the enhancement of Persevere’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organization
-
Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand

Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization

Responsible for fundraising and developing other revenues necessary to support Persevere’s mission
-
Responsible for the fiscal integrity of Persevere to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization
-
Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position

Organization Operations: Oversees and implements appropriate initiative and resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are efficient and effective

Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals

Actively engage and energize Persevere volunteers, board members, alumni, partnering organizations, and funders

Lead, coach, develop, and retain Persevere’s high-performance Executive and Management teams
-
Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents

Job Duties

Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the organization

Be an external local and national presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of the local program as a model for regional and national replication
-
Begin to build partnerships in new markets, establishing relationships with the funders, and political and community leaders at each expansion site
-
Serve as Persevere’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media and the general public
-
Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance Persevere’s Mission
-
Engage in fundraising and developing other revenues

Oversee marketing and other communications efforts
-
Oversee the organization of the Board and committee meetings
-
Lead strategic planning and implementation
-
Lead the planning and operation of the annual budget
-
Collaborate with organization staff
-
Work through Directors and Managers to ensure effective policies and procedures are followed to provide for effective day-to-day operation of the nonprofit
-
Review and approve contracts for services
-
Document critical Standard Operating Procedures and Workflows
-
Support succession planning by cross training staff
-
Complete corporate training on a timely basis
-

Qualifications
-
5 or more years of executive leadership experience with a proven track record of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
-
Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
-
Strong marketing and public relations experience and demonstrated success in fundraising with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
-
Financial acumen and experience in nonprofit finance, resource allocation, fund development, and revenue generation
-
History of effectively leading and scaling a performance- and outcomes-based organization
-
Excellence in organizational management with the ability to develop, influence, motivate and coach high-performance teams to contribute to the organization's success
-
Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills

Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
