We are Persevere, a national nonprofit organization an an affiliate of Vant4age, providing a coding education program that not only teaches inmates and parolees how to code, but also provides job search and job placement services, instruction in the soft skills necessary for the work environment, life skills education, mentoring support and entrepreneurial training for forming their own businesses and marketing their coding services to companies nationwide.
Job Overview
The candidate will support the IT Department and Strategy by helping to design, organize, modify, and support our organization’s computer systems, including Windows and Linux operating systems, business applications, security tools, web servers, email systems, and user hardware (laptops, PCs). The candidate will be expected to work on complex assignments and perform a wide range of systems administration and IT Operations activities. This is a full-time, salaried position with excellent benefits. This position is remote with some travel to and work within prisons required. This position requires the ability to pass a reference check, background check and drug screen.

Infrastructure
Assist with the routine IT Operations Management of deployed systems including Linux and Windows devices running our core application infrastructure both inside the DOC facilities as well as general Persevere IT Operations and back office infrastructure.
Assist in the improvement of and the use of tools to enhance IT Security including presenting solutions for cyber security best practices, penn testing, auditing, SIEM and security monitoring.
Troubleshoot and support Network Infrastructure including Meraki LAN/WANs, firewalls.
Work in partnership with the IT team to help plan, provision, implement and support field deployments and enhancements to current and future DOC facilities.
Ensure effective change management and configuration management of key information systems and components utilized in the comprehensive Persevere IT ecosystem.
Support junior staff in resolving Service Desk and related Incidents using JIRA Service Desk including ensuring timely resolution, customer service and end user satisfaction.
Work with the IT Team to enhance internal IT Capabilities (processes and systems) for the monitoring (performance, security and event) of critical business systems and DOC endpoint environments.
Diagram and document our IT infrastructure in all operating locations to ensure effective internal knowledge of operating environments.
Hardware and Software Support
Help to procure, install, deploy and maintain endpoints and applications and hardware both for back office staff as well as field deployments.
Ensure the upkeep and maintenance of documentation and management of IT Assets and systems.
Provide On call support during extended hours of operations as required.
Participate in developing configuration and deployment standards and processes for scalable deployment of Windows-based endpoints.
Competencies
In depth understanding and knowledge of routing, switching, firewalls, policy-based security and SD-WAN systems (Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet)
Deep L2/L3 knowledge of configuring, deploying, managing LAN/WAN/Wireless including HTTP(s), DNS, TCP/IP, ROUTING, VLANs, VIPs, ACLs, Load Balancers, ACLs, NAT/PAT, IP Addressing, OSPF, EIGRP
Advanced knowledge of Windows Desktop Operating Systems including familiarity with local policies, imaging, configuration management, device security, UEFI/SecureBoot
Familiarity with Cloud systems (Azure, AWS) infrastructure and resources
Strong analysis and diagnostic skills to help root cause and resolve service requests and incidents to complete resolution
Abilities to rapidly turn to other sources such as vendor support, online tools and resources / communities to ensure effective resolution to challenges
Openness to document, share, cross-train, and build up internal IT Team knowledge bases and skills
Willingness to teach, mentor, instruct junior IT staff and participate in their development to further increase the effectiveness of the IT Team
Be comfortable working in a highly secure and restrictive environment
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent
CCNA (or Better) plus “hands on” experience in managing complex network environments
3 years of working on server infrastructure including Linux Distributions, Windows Server O/S (2012 or better), Network Attached Storage devices
At least one certification as a systems administrator or network administrator
3 years of related Systems or Network Administration experience
The ability to present solutions or enhancements to existing IT systems infrastructure management and operations processes
The ability to work well with others and independently as situations require
Willingness to travel and work in various prison systems and contexts with integrity and professionalism
The desire to help document and share knowledge for the benefit of the IT Team and the organization
