Job Overview

We are currently seeking a Director of Finance and Grants Management to join our team.  This position will ensure that the organization’s accounting and grants management functions operate efficiently and effectively and align with organizational goals.

This individual will be strategic, analytical, creative, and focused with the drive to meet and exceed our annual revenue and growth goals by examining, recommending, and developing financial planning and business strategies.  The ideal candidate is a skilled financial manager with experience in grant management and organizational planning for nonprofits. They are mission driven, strategic, and able to seamlessly shift focus from details to the big picture. .

The Director of Finance and Grants Management is a full-time salaried position with benefits.  This is a remote role.  This position requires the ability to successfully pass a reference check and a  background check.

 

Responsibilities

 

Finance

Lead the overall strategic finance function, collaborating with the Board of Directors and executive leadership, and support cross-departmental collaboration that ensures all financial solutions positively support organizational performance

Conduct financial analysis, modeling, forecasting, budgeting and reporting efforts to ensure financial operations and business strategy

Perform a variety of accounting functions including payroll entry, monthly accruals, fixed asset schedule maintenance, accounts and Chart of Accounts reconciliation, Month End Close processing including journal entries and financial information preparation for tax returns and the 990

Maintain QuickBooks Online company data, manage bank accounts and credit cards, monitor Chase email

Grants Management

Provide assistance in the planning and  budget development of grant funded projects

Assist staff in grant implementation and management, including instruction of internal procedures and funding agency compliance, grant documentation, and assistance with all issues of financial, personnel, payroll, purchasing, reporting and administration of funded awards

Maintain a list of positions per grant and contract  to ensure the appropriate employee allocation, allocate payroll percentages to funding sources (grants/contract/other) in accordance with grant and contract budgets and allocate to regions/locations in accordance to Cost Allocation Plan, track unrestricted and restricted funds

Work with staff to identify and resolve budget and compliance issues

Ensure that grant expenditures are reasonable, allocable and allowable according to organizational guidelines

Other

Train, retain, manage and mentor finance and grants management team members

Create, document and implement processes and procedures related to accounting and grant management for business compliance, efficiency and continuity

Develop and monitor business performance metrics

Coordinate activities of external auditors and perform regulatory reporting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, CPA preferred

  • Certification in grants management, highly desirable

  • 5+ years of accounting experience

  • 2+ years in non-profit with grant accounting

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of financial management and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Knowledge of principles of grant administration, including funding sources, administrative requirements, cost principles and state and federal regulations

  • Knowledge of principles of non-profit administration

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of personnel supervision, training, and performance evaluation

  • QuickBooks Online experience and expertise with spreadsheets

  • Analytical thinking and excellent problem-solving skills

  • Highly refined organization skills and attention to detail

  • Proper time management and deadline oriented

  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team

  • Great communication skills
