Position Overview:

 

The Lab Operations Manager (Ottawa) is responsible for oversight of the Turnstone Research lab located within Carleton University, and will manage operations in response to and in support of the evolving needs of the company. The Lab Operations Manager will apply technical expertise to inform decision-making and coordinate with Scientific teams to prioritize objectives. Responsibilities include sourcing and procurement of all lab consumables, reagents, and equipment, managing logistics for shipping and receiving, and maintaining communication with all team members to support their activities and enhance productivity. The Lab Operations Manager will coordinate with internal stakeholders, vendors and collaborators to manage budgets and timelines. Administrative responsibilities include maintaining all necessary licenses for lab operations, accounting, invoice approvals, budgeting, site-specific staff on-boarding, selection and management of vendors, management of equipment, facility maintenance, biological and consumable inventories. The Lab Operations Manager is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment in compliance with health and safety regulations, and as a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee. They will support staff training based on institutional safety and operational requirements, and routinely review and update Health and Safety and Biosafety policies as needed.

 

Qualifications:

 

o   Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred

o   3-5 years’ experience in management/oversight of an industrial laboratory

o   Experience with Biosafety Level 2 material and CL2 zone work areas

o   Must have good problem-solving abilities

o   Self-starter with a strong work ethic and attention to detail

o   Knowledge and experience with standard software (e.g. LIMS, Microsoft Office Suite, Graphpad Prism)

o   Knowledge and commitment of Occupational Health and Safety Procedures in a laboratory.
