Are you interested in becoming part of the team that's creating the world's first production operations platform powered by AI that provides powerful real-time debugging and tools for automating incident remediation? Shoreline is transforming how companies manage production operations by making it as easy to manage 10,000 servers as it is to manage one server. Companies today are seeing an explosion in the size of their infrastructure, yet their DevOps teams simply cannot grow as quickly as their business demands. Shoreline is helping improve availability and the customer experience while reducing toil for site reliability engineers.

Shoreline is looking for a new Technical Writer to help expand, improve, and refine Shoreline's technical documentation and content through close collaboration with the current writing and content platform team. To accurately create and disseminate platform knowledge, you'll also work with individuals and teams across the company to translate institutional knowledge into accessible, public documentation. Although you'll be guided and slowly introduced to the new technologies at first, you'll soon have the opportunity to lead many of the documentation projects within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Devise, write, and edit thorough technical documentation using Shoreline's proprietary, Markdown-based documentation platform

  • Learn the intricacies of the Shoreline platform and translate that into both internal- and external-facing articles and guides

  • Be one of the first "customers" for new features and user experiences, providing stakeholders with detailed and honest technical feedback

  • Gather, edit, and publish domain-specific knowledge from subject matter experts

  • Use and expand upon existing style guides, templates, and best practices to help the content team produce clear, concise, and reusable content

  • Plan and create training materials for onboarding new customers

  • Work with content platform developers to improve the Shoreline documentation platform's UI/UX

  • Own and drive projects independently, while collaborating with other writers and stakeholders for discussion, feedback, and guidance

Key qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience writing technical documentation, whether through articles, user guides, tutorials, training materials, blog posts, or video scripts

  • Ability to collect, write, and edit easily-digestible technical content

  • Experience with engineering-oriented markup languages and formats including Markdown, YAML, JSON, HTML, etc.

  • Experience with GitOps practices and software development life cycles including daily use of basic Git commands and GitHub pull requests

  • Experience with Unix-based systems and basic terminal commands

  • Ability to ensure thematic voice and stylistic consistency across large projects while being meticulous enough to catch minor issues

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or comparable job experience

  • Fluent in written and spoken English

Preferred qualifications

  • Coding experience, particularly shell and/or frontend technologies (React, TypeScript, bash, etc.)

  • Comfortable using basic Node Package Manager (NPM) apps and their respective commands

  • Experience with issue trackers such as JIRA, GitHub, GitLab, etc.

  • Used at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

  • Personal or working experience in IT, DevOps, or backend support fields

  • Writing samples or a portfolio are also a big plus
