We are seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious Senior Linux Administrator to join our team working with a Federal client. The position will be a mix of remote and onsite open to US citizens residing in the Washington, DC area of the United States with a Secret security clearance. This role will be working in the capacity of team lead, within the technical operations team on a day-to-day basis, addressing support requests and requirements for new infrastructure/software.  


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Participate in client facing meeting on the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure Unix/Linux system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with industry best practices and Federal requirements.
  • Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
  • Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and database administration functions to implement Unix systems that utilize industry best practices to meet corporate objectives.
  • Lead and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for Unix/Linux systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department managers.
  • Develop, document, and maintain Unix/Linux system training materials and systems documentation for educating new IT staff.
  • Working with the broader business in order to solve customer issues such as integrations requirements
  • Operate and tune Unix/Linux systems, servers, and related components to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications.
  • Install, configure and maintain Unix/Linux systems and software.
  • Perform and test system configuration backups and restores to ensure system recovery from error or outage.
  • Perform and test data backups and restores, in conjunction with the storage team where present, to ensure full data retrieval.
  • Review and deploy Unix system releases and vendor-supplied patches according to best practices.
  • Monitor, test, and tune system performance; preserve and provide system log files as needed.
  • Recommend and execute modifications to Unix/Linux systems in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
  • Working knowledge of Red Hat Satellite, Ansible, and scripting
  • Must be able to work independently with little to no daily supervision, is a team player, open to ideas and learning.
  • Work in a distributed team environment where team members are spread across numerous locations and often communicate virtually to support clients. 
  • Work as a team member closely with the Project Manager, Business Analyst, Technical lead and others to ensure implementations are completed on time and within budget

 

Required Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Must have: Linux - Red Hat; Linux Administration; Ansible; Ansible Tower (Red Hat); Linux Admin; Linux Server Hardening
  • Desired: 8 years of experience as a UNIX/Linux administrator. Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Unix/Linux servers, networks. Ability to conduct research into Unix/Linux issues and products as required. 
  • Red Hat Linux (5,6,7,8), RedHat 7+8 experience strongly preferred. Extensive support experience with RedHat Linux. Proven RedHat Linux deployment at enterprise level.
  • AWS experience preferred. 
  • Hands-on hardware and software troubleshooting experience.
  • Shell scripting experience. 
  • Strong understanding of operating system hardening. 
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.  
  • Strong customer service orientation. Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language. 
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Must reside the Washington, DC area and be available for on-site work
  • Ability to work with US Federal clients and possess a Secret clearance
  • Skilled in verbal, written and oral communication
  • Strong team player with a great attitude

  • Ability to take ownership and drive issues to closure

Education Requirement:

  • 4 year Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Eng or related (highly preferred)
