About This Role:

Pairwise is seeking a Director, Financial Controller whose primary responsibility is effective leadership and management of all activities relating to the Company’s accounting team and accounting operations.  This role will ensure the integrity of the Company’s financial and accounting information, as well as the preparation of accurate financial statements delivered in a timely manner.  In addition, this position will support our continued evolution to a more analytical and digital Accounting and Finance organization.

 

The Financial Controller will oversee the monthly, quarterly and year-end close and financial reporting activities.  This role will also develop and administer accounting and financial policies, internal controls, and audit.

 

The candidate should remain current on new GAAP pronouncements and ensure adherence to compliance requirements. This position will also serve as the internal subject matter expert for revenue recognition and technical accounting matters, particularly in support of the establishment, growth and scaling of our Consumer Products business at an important inflection point in our history. 

 

The Financial Controller will also lead, mentor, develop and continue to build the accounting team which currently consists of an Assistant Controller and a Staff Accountant, while also cultivating strong working relationships with Functional Heads and Leads to provide support, advice, and business suggestions. 

 


Essential Functions:

                     Manage the day-to-day operations of the general ledger (GL), balance sheet, A/P, and A/R.

                     Establish and maintain effective accounting standards, policies, and processes to ensure that the required recording and reporting of financial information is clear, consistent and available on a timely and accurate basis. Oversee the development of technical accounting memos relating to the Company’s business activities as needed.

                     Drive the monthly financial close process.  Own the GL and recording of all business transactions, including detailed analysis and reconciliation of all GL accounts and compliance with U.S. GAAP .

                     Build upon existing foundation to create an effective system of internal controls, procedures, accounting processes, and policies.  Scale, streamline and improve processes and internal controls over time as the organization grows and matures.  Maintain comprehensive documentation in support of accounting positions and conclusions.

                     Prepare and deliver reporting packages to facilitate review of the financial statements with key constituents, including the Executive Team, the Leadership Team and external investors.

                     Constant and consistent maintenance and awareness of the Company’s financial position and proactive recommendations and actions to prevent issues.

                     Manage the relationship and interactions with external auditors.

                     Equity plan administration and capitalization table management, including related activities such as oversight of valuation processes with external providers and stock-based compensation expense calculation and accounting (FASB ASC 718).

                     Partner with Assistant Controller and IT team to ensure integrity of the Company’s accounting systems, including interfaces from payroll, banking, equity, and expense management systems to the general ledger.

                     Identify automation opportunities and execute upon improvements within the Accounting and Finance function, facilitating implementation of new systems and modifications of existing systems as needed.

                     Direct compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.

                     Support budget and forecasts preparation.

                     Assist with establishment of short and long-range accounting team goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.  Manage, develop and build the accounting team to keep pace with the growth and increasing complexity of the business.

                     Provide cross-functional support, leading projects and performing ad hoc analyses as needs arise.

 


Required Education & Experience:

                     Proven working experience as a Financial Controller, including experience with GL functions and the month-end / quarter-end / year-end close process and with creating financial statements.

                     10 years of relevant experience, including at least two years in an accounting leadership role.

                     BS in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA required.

                     Extensive knowledge of GAAP and regulatory accounting and reporting requirements.  Solid understanding of ASC 606.

                     Ability to interface and communicate effectively with corporate leadership and all other functions in the Company.

                     Excellent written and presentation skills.

                     Deep knowledge of ERP systems. NetSuite and Workday Adaptive Planning experience is a plus.

                     Advanced Excel skills.

                     Mix of prior public and private company experience, including comfort-level applying structure to a fast-paced, high-growth, entrepreneurial business, is preferred.

                     Prior experience in food, produce, or CPG industries, a plus.
