Position summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Scientist to join our dynamic and growing team. The Scientist will have a unique opportunity to impact both the science and environment of an early-stage biotechnology company. As part of an innovative, intellectually stimulating, and fast-paced team, the Scientist will help pursue Azalea’s goal of developing the next generation of cell and genome therapies.
The Scientist position requires on-site work at our world-class laboratory in Berkeley, CA, along with at a vivarium in Alameda, CA.
The Scientist will have opportunities for rapid scientific and professional growth, including the opportunity to communicate scientific findings through conference presentations and/or journal publications.

Key responsibilities

Assist with designing, producing, characterizing, and testing novel therapeutics in small animal models, in addition to mammalian cell lines and primary cell types.

Write and amend IACUC documents.

Analyze data and communicate results within a team setting.

Maintain detailed and organized notes and results within an electronic notebook.

Additional duties and responsibilities as required based on the needs of the company.
Required skills and background
-
PhD/DPhil in molecular or cell biology, immunology, bioengineering, or related discipline and at least 4-6 years of laboratory research experience in academia or industry.

Experience with handling mice, colony maintenance, and in vivo experimentation. (e.g. IV compound administration, sample collection, biochemical and cellular analysis of tissue samples, and necropsy).

Strong communication, problem-solving, organization, and work ethic.

Ability to rapidly learn new technical skills as well as teach others.

Ability to work both collaboratively and individually in a fast-paced research environment.
Preferred skills and background

Knowledge or experience with CRISPR-Cas genome editing.

Experience with molecular cloning, DNA/RNA isolation, tissue culture, flow cytometry, and/or next-generation sequencing (NGS).

Experience with testing engineered CAR/TCR T (and/or immunotherapeutic) efficacy in mice, including small animal IVIS imaging.

Experience with humanized (PBMC and/or CD34+) mouse models.
