Hispanic Federation (HF) is the nation's premier Latino nonprofit membership organization. Founded in 1990, HF works to empower and advance the Latino community and its institutions through programs, advocacy, grantmaking, disaster relief, and capacity building. Hispanic Federation’s Puerto Rico (HF PR) Office opened in 2017. Since then, over $53 million in private dollars have been invested in community outreach projects, programs, and initiatives on various topics such as: renewable energy, agriculture, food security, housing, community development, local economic development, health, public policy, and advocacy, among others. Throughout HF’s history, and particularly in Puerto Rico, the organization has been proactive in identifying, empathizing with, and supporting communities in emergencies and recovery processes.
Whom We Seek
Hispanic Federation is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as the Senior Director of Programs to oversee programs and supervise program managers executing work in HF’s office in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Senior Director will support program development and work with leadership to establish new programs and initiatives across Puerto Rico and USVI with support from the Chief Director. The Senior Director also serves as a partner in prospecting and securing new funding opportunities, managing donor relations, as it relates to programs, reporting on programmatic deliverables, and connecting with local and national funders, both public and private sector, who support the work of Hispanic Federation.
The successful candidate will have experience in working with program design, budgets, project and program management impacting low incoming and historically marginalized communities in Puerto Rico. The position will report to the Puerto Rico office in San Juan and is a hybrid role. Staff are required to be present onsite a minimum of 10 days a month and attend activities off-site as needed. This position will have some limited domestic travel and must be available for some periodic evening and weekend activities.

Job Responsibilities:
- Provide direct supervision of the Puerto Rico program team with support of the Senior Director of Policy and Advocacy and provide direct oversight and support for all program implementation in Puerto Rico and USVI
- Supervise the program team and aid in tracking and assessing program impact, create and manage budgets, and guide programmatic decisions as needed; oversee impact trackers for all programs in Puerto Rico and USVI.
- Identify areas of growth within programs and provide critical feedback to better program outcomes; support program team members with identifying opportunities for professional development.
- Strengthen engagement of stakeholders and the network of community-based organizations working towards the success of communities in the region.
- Lead facilitation of and/or participate in frequent public and private meetings with diverse, multisector stakeholders, including funders, government, community members, local and national partner organizations and businesses.
- Prepare narratives and reports as required for relevant programs, both actual and proposed.
- Work closely with the Puerto Rico Chief Director and other Hispanic Federation departments to support development work and secure additional funds for Puerto Rico programs.
- Connect and manage relationships with private and government funders as needed.
- Draft and finalize, with the support of the Puerto Rico Chief Director, program team, and national staff, communications for press releases, social media, outreach advertisement for events and programs.
- Supervise Puerto Rico program teams in partnership with the Puerto Rico Chief Director and Senior Director of Policy and Advocacy, leading in times where the Chief Director is not available or able to participate in certain spaces.
- Periodically serve as HF’s spokesperson, as needed, in public facing events, with community partners, government officials, and media opportunities as available.
- Travel requirements: Frequent travel around Puerto Rico with some limited overnight travel to attend meetings, events, and site visits; Limited domestic travel to USVI and other states to attend meetings, events, and site visits.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, master's degree in social work, planning, public administration, or similar degree preferred
- Minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience and expertise in program design, management and evaluation, development, and staff management duties including demonstrated career progression with increasing roles of responsibility.
- Experience in leading community development, human services, and/or direct community service programs required. Combination with some policy and/or government experience preferred.
- High-level, strategic understanding of social change, social justice, equity and progressive movements backed by direct experience with grassroots or coalition efforts.
- Excellent communicator and writer in Spanish and English with public speaking experience. Spanish language fluency is required.
- A strong facilitator with experience in conducting training, managing diverse stakeholder meetings, and organizing large and small events.
- Existing relationships with community, government, business and philanthropic leaders in Puerto Rico and USVI are an asset.
- Capacity to work independently, manage several projects simultaneously, take initiative, share leadership, creatively problem solve, and exercise good judgment.
- Maturity, professionalism, excellent interpersonal skills, and diplomacy/consensus-building skills.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse and remote staff and partners including regional and headquarter staff, various issue coalitions, government officials across the political spectrum, and extremely diverse partners.
- Access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range is $80,000-$90,000 and is commensurate with experience. Compensation comes with a robust benefits package with fully subsidized medical, dental, vision insurance, 403(B) retirement plans (including eligibility for a company match), and access to pre-tax flexible spending benefits. Full-time regular employees are also provided with fifteen (15) vacation days and twelve (12) paid sick time.
