Job Title: Analytics and Data Visualization Specialist

 

About Nashville Biosciences (NashBio):

We are an exciting startup that is fundamentally changing research & development processes across the biopharma and biotech industries. We are a spinout from Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) and are the only company of its kind that leverages years of rich longitudinal clinical data and genomic information from hundreds of thousands of individuals to address pressing R&D questions for our clients in the biopharmaceutical and diagnostics industries. We leverage this massive databank, along with unique computational methods developed at VUMC, to offer data-enabled products and services that reduce costs, speed up activity and improve success all along the R&D pipeline. The company is revenue-generating with a business model focused in two areas:

 

1.         Leveraging our genomic-linked electronic medical record (EMR) datasets to provide R&D insights to biopharma, diagnostics and other life science customers;


2.         Formation of biotech spinouts based on proprietary biological insights derived from the database.

 

Position:

NashBio is seeking business-minded data scientist to join a growing team of fast-paced and forward-thinking innovators. Successful candidates are motivated self-starters who would thrive in the rapidly changing and challenging environment of a startup. In this role, you will work closely with senior leadership and scientific project managers to identify and structure relevant data elements within our databases, and communicate your findings visually. You will work hand in hand with our clinical, scientific and computational teams to analyze and present results generated from our proprietary datasets, such as the identification and study of a particular disease population or assessing the disease and drug mechanisms associated with new drug targets by navigating our rich and complex database. Central to this work will be an ability to think in a logical, structured fashion, work effectively in a highly collaborative environment and effectively communicate your findings to the rest of the team and ultimately to NashBio’s clients.

 

Responsibilities:

–          Parse through structured EMR to locate relevant data for extraction & analysis

–          Assist in exploration of unstructured data and NLP techniques

–          Build data visualizations to support client communication & storytelling 

–          Create dashboards that support ongoing client projects and repeated data inquiries

–          Participate in client meetings

–          Advise team, particularly business development, on availability of specific data features

–          Liaise with technology team to build databases that meet client data needs

–          Collaborate with technology team to optimize NashBio’s database

–          Work collaboratively with relevant external experts and client contacts when specialized expertise is needed for client service work

–          Support product development activity, including creation of minimum viable products

 

Qualifications:

–          Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline and 3+ years work experience in manipulation & analysis of large, complex datasets

–          Experience in healthcare analytics

–          Experience in navigating & extracting meaningful information from structured & unstructured electronic medical records

–          Proficient SQL skills

–          Experience in data visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau) a plus

–          Familiarity with OMOP data model is a plus

–          Understanding of physician coding habits is a plus

–          Authorized to work in the US

Location: The position will ideally be based in Nashville, TN but qualified candidates from across the US will be considered.
