About Nashville Biosciences (NashBio):
We are an exciting biotech startup that is fundamentally changing drug discovery & development processes in biopharma. We are a spinout from Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) and are the only company of its kind that leverages years of rich longitudinal clinical data and genomic information from hundreds of thousands of individuals to address pressing R&D questions for our clients in the biopharmaceutical and diagnostics industries. We leverage this massive databank, along with unique computational methods, to offer data-enabled products and services that reduce costs, speed up activity and improve success all along the R&D pipeline. The company is revenue- generating with a business model focused in two areas:
  1. Leveraging our genomic-linked EMR assets to provide R&D insights to biopharma, diagnostic and other life science customers;
  2. Formation of biotech spinouts based on proprietary biological insights derived from the database


Position:
Nashville Biosciences is seeking a data engineer to assist with the construction of our cloud data infrastructure for processing, storing and distributing data from our data lake to service our growing customer base.  This position reports to our CTO.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with and/or lead the development of data automation data infrastructure projects.
  • Research, assess and integrate new technologies and datasets for integration.
  • Work directly with clients to support customer data ingress/egress needs from cloud environment.
  • Provide support of an agile development ops culture.
  • Participate in ownership of data release deployments and provide continuous process improvement for data releases.
  • Work to continually develop and improve processes, methodologies and approaches.


Qualifications:

  • 5+ years development experience in a big data commercial setting.
  • Familiarity with mac and unix/linux environment.
  • Experience working with sensitive data (HIPAA, GxP, etc) in a cloud environment is a plus.
  • Experience with a production cloud development environment (AWS, GCP preferred).
  • Experience working with and managing cloud services (EC2, Compute Engine, etc.)
  • Operational experience with 2+ data languages (Python, Go, SQL, JS, etc.)
  • Experience with big data analysis tools (Spark, Kafka, Hadoop).
  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools (Airflow, DBT, etc).
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL and experience with relational (Redshift, BigQuery, Postgres, MySQL, etc.) and non-relational databases (Mongo, etc), preferably in a cloud setting.
  • Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures and datasets.
  • Working knowledge of stream processing, and highly scalable datastores (S3, Cloud Storage, etc.)
  • Experience working with cross functional teams in a dynamic-startup environment.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer-related field (computer science, etc), minimum 5+ years of working experience.

Location: This position can be fully remote. We are headquartered in Nashville, TN.
