The Assistant Controller will be a key member of the finance team, reporting directly to the Corporate Controller. They will help lead the broader accounting function including financial close, reporting, and compliance in addition to leading the royalty accounting function. To be successful in this position, this person will need to have a deep understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) and extensive experience with financial systems and be able to troubleshoot system issues as well as support cross-functional teams.
Essential Functions
Financial Reporting and General Accounting
- Perform month-end close activities including preparation/review of journal entries, maintenance of reconciliations, and other closing tasks of the team.
- Prepare consolidated reporting for the Company’s Management, Board of Directors, and its lenders.
- Ensure adherence to US GAAP by monitoring new guidance and advising team members on proper accounting treatment of the Company’s transactions.
- Review and interpret royalty agreements to accurately determine royalty rates, payment terms, and reporting requirements for each producer and ensure they adhere to the Company’s standard practices.
- Maintain accurate records of royalty data in the Company’s royalty management application (Alliant), including producer information and licensing details and manage the distribution of the periodic reporting.
- Support, review, and supervise other areas of accounting (AP, AR) to ensure proper processing and alignment with the business.
- Interface with external auditors to provide schedules and supporting documentation in support of the annual audit.
- Support the Controller with workflow process improvement and enhancement of the internal control framework of the Company.
- Manage the periodic reporting process to ensure tax compliance in the Company’s various jurisdictions in which it operates.
- Finance system support including maintenance and enhancements of the Company’s ERP, NetSuite and royalty management system, Alliant.
- Undertake operational accounting projects and provide guidance on issues as needed.
- Perform ad hoc projects and other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Bachelors in Accounting/Finance required.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
- Strong functional and technical understanding of intermediate and advanced accounting principles, internal controls and applications.
- Highest standard of organization, accuracy and precision in a time sensitive manner.
- Advanced Excel skills are required.
- Experience with major ERPs (NetSuite a plus).
- Must be analytical and detail oriented.
- Self-motivated individual with the ability to problem solve and work independently with little supervision.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Must be flexible, able to multi-task and work to deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills with strong written and verbal skills.
