ParentChild+’s purpose is to ensure that all children regardless of their race, socio-economic status, or zip code have equal possibilities from the start – we work with families, caregivers, and communities to support not only early literacy and school readiness, but early opportunities.

We are a nationally recognized early childhood school readiness organization working in 16 states and six countries. Our innovative two-generation program focuses on providing families early opportunities. We work with marginalized and under-served communities to support families and other caregivers in preparing children for school success. Writer and Content Specialist -- Position Overview

ParentChild+ is seeking a skilled writer and content specialist to write compelling copy, as well as guide and develop the content creation across all platforms. Content matters, and storytelling, even more. It is how we connect funders, potential donors, partners, and stakeholders to who we are and what we do.

ParentChild+ is relentlessly committed to bringing our purpose to life for families and caregivers we work with, staff, supporters, and communities. Storytelling in all its forms, grantwriting, website content, social media, and outreach materials build relationships and strengthen our mission and purpose, ultimately enabling us to work with more children and families.

We are looking for a writer and content specialist to join our growing development team. This position reports to and works with the Chief Development and Strategic Initiatives Officer and will be responsible for helping to establish content strategy, developing, optimizing, and maintaining high-quality and consistent content across all our communication outlets, both internal and external, including but not limited to grant proposals, social media, website, newsletters, one-sheets, presentations, and other outlets we may develop together.

To ensure success as a writer and content specialist, you should understand the early childhood education space and/or non-profit programming, as well as ParentChild+.  A skilled writer and content specialist on the team is expected to keep current and possess deep knowledge of early childhood care and education trends, research, events, news, policies etc.

Position Responsibilities

• Write and develop content for grant proposals and reports – drafting best language to be used across grants.
• Write website content and work with other communications staff to keep website content current and fresh.
• With development team write content for bi-monthly donor newsletter and one-pagers on programmatic work.
• Write press releases and social media posts.
• Draft letters to the editors.

Skills and Qualifications:

Education Requirement:

• BA required

Minimum Work Experience:

• At least 2 -4 years’ experience with content creation-focused writing, experience could include grant writing, website and social media text, journalism, and/or copywriting.

Specialized Knowledge

• Advanced expertise in Microsoft Office.
• Experience in WordPress and HTML coding and working knowledge of Adobe InDesign or similar design program (preferred).

Skills/Abilities

• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Write consistent, creative, and compelling text.
• Navigate multiple perspectives, communicate across a variety of stakeholders, and build trusting relationships.
• Experience writing web content, press releases, blogs, newsletters, and/or other written communications.
• Take initiative, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, be flexible with hours when needed for specific deadlines, and work both independently and as a team member.
• Commitment to early childhood/education issues and knowledge of trends and news in education and education-based fundraising; learn early childhood/education industry norms to ensure program communications materials are designed appropriately.
• Be flexible, listen to/understand the needs of our partners, engage in regular feedback and communication, and adapt processes and procedures as needed.
• Be a team player, support external & internal project teams, engage with colleagues regularly.
• Bilingual (Spanish) - preferred but not required.

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time salaried position. The compensation range for this position is $65,000.

ParentChild+’s benefit package includes: employer contributions to medical plan and coverage of dental and vision insurance plans; a 403B plan with an employer match; and paid sick leave, personal days, vacation, 11 paid holidays, a week-long office closure at year-end, and summer Fridays. We offer a family-friendly flexible work schedule and work environment.

Location:

The ParentChild+ National Office (when we are working in person) is located in NYC. Applicants do not have to be based in New York; however, they must be able to travel both to New York and other ParentChild+ locations when conditions permit. Preference will be given to those applicants who could come to the NYC office at least once a month.
