Aspen is seeking a highly motivated professional with a passion for driving medical innovation and forging meaningful collaborations to join our team as Director, Medical Affairs. Reporting to the SVP, Corporate Affairs, this pivotal role will develop and implement Aspen's U.S. medical affairs strategy for our autologous cell therapy. The ideal candidate has medical affairs experience in a commercial organization, is adept at creating productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and is proficient in communicating the latest technical advances.

Travel is estimated at 25% for this role. While our headquarters is in San Diego, we are open to considering candidates who can come onsite as needed and readily access a major airport for ongoing travel.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develop and manage field operations strategy, budget, and resources relevant to Medical Science Liaison (MSL) activities and create, manage, and track success of Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics.
  • Serve as the field based clinical expert on the cross-functional new product strategy team and represent the voice and trends of the field.
  • Assess customer insights, opinions and feedback and communicate key medical insights from Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) / Principal Investigators (PIs) and other Health Care Providers (HCPs) to inform program refinements.
  • Craft external presentations collaboratively with Corporate Affairs, Patient Advocacy, Clinical Development, R&D, and publications teams to communicate and highlight company and medical affairs objectives to KOLs and HCPs, and how they can best engage with the company.
  • Develop and implement medical education training program and ensure internal teams are trained on current industry Good Clinical Practice (GCP), compliance and pharmacovigilance standards, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that apply to them. Conduct training to ensure compliant execution.
  • Develop medical education materials to present scientific and clinical trial information to a variety of audiences.
  • Create and update relevant SOPs as needed to ensure alignment with tactics.
  • Provide support to Investigators involved in sponsored interventional or observational studies either directly or in collaboration with the Clinical / Development teams/leadership to ensure alignment to the business scientific needs.
  • Contribute to development of the strategy for scientific exchange with HCPs by fostering transparent medical and scientific communications.
  • Collaborate with the publication team on development of data dissemination plan for congresses, all prelaunch clinical data, development of abstracts, posters, and manuscripts.
  • May serve as back up for SVP of Corporate Affairs on the publication team.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s degree is required. An advanced degree (M.D., Ph.D., or PharmD) in life sciences is highly preferred, with a specific focus in neuroscience being the ideal field.
  • Experience with advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ neurology Medical Affairs industry experience preferred.
  • Expertise within a neurodegenerative disease field such as Parkinson’s disease preferred.

  • Exhibit high level of professionalism, with ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including “peer-to-peer” scientific relationships with key thought leaders in research, healthcare, academia, payer, and government organizations.
  • High degree of ethics and employing the highest levels of scientific rigor and in full compliance with applicable rules and regulations
  • Strong capability with advocating for patient-centric decisions with all stakeholders in patient care including providing credible scientific expertise and addressing educational scientific gaps.
  • Maintain awareness of and access to internal and external information sources, and regularly compile, distribute, and share information cross functionally to execute field medical activities.
  • Perpetual learner mindset to stay abreast of up-to-date information relevant to disease areas, medical affairs compliance, and best practices for the profession.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, anticipate and adapt to changes, and work efficiently to meet challenging deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego is $180K to $240K annually. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc.  Aspen Neuroscience is multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
