Aspen Neuroscience is at the forefront of autologous stem-cell therapies, and we are looking to add a Senior Automation Engineer to our growing team. The Senior Automation Engineer will support the development, improvement, maintenance, and operation of complex custom automation systems in a biotech environment. They will bring a multi disciplinary, collaborative approach and strong software and problem-solving skills to help prevent and solve issues with the automation equipment. This is an on-site role in Torrey Pines, CA that requires flexibility and availability for weekend and holiday work as needed. Relocation is not available.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand system requirements, operational scenarios, and success criteria for a variety of automation systems.
  • Develop scripted protocols for machine operation that align with the biological process needs.
  • Support system integration efforts across hardware and software components, ensuring seamless interoperability.
  • Help develop and implement verification and validation plans, including functional testing, to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and identify root causes of failures in automation systems where up time is paramount.
  • Create and maintain essential engineering documentation and system specifications.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and internal quality processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and key opinion leaders to ensure seamless integration and successful project delivery

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum BS in Biomedical, Computer, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the hardware design, automation or biotechnology industry.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Automation Engineering Knowledge: Understanding of automation engineering principles, algorithms, system architecture, and interest in emerging technologies, particularly within the custom automation environment.
  • Problem Solving: Strong engineering intuition with the ability to analyze complex issues and implement rigorous, logical solutions.
  • Software Integration: Proficiency working in a C# codebase and experience with integration and testing of automated systems.
  • Hardware & Automation Technologies: Experience with hardware systems such as robotics, motion platforms, controls, sensors, and machine vision.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Process Orientation: Strong attention to detail with a commitment to process discipline, documentation, and continuous improvement.
  • Regulatory Awareness: Knowledge of GxP principles and familiarity with FDA regulations (21 CFR Parts 11, 210, 211, 820) is desirable.
  • Mechanical Systems: Familiarity with statics, dynamics, and motion control.
  • Electronic Systems: Skilled in integration of electronic components, electric motor control, custom/off-the-shelf hardware selection, troubleshooting and system safety.
  • Safety: Establishing and following safety guidelines for machinery and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

General Office Environment. This is an indoor position that requires sitting at a desk for extended periods of time and the ability to type and use a computer. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Some Cleanroom access is required
