Job Overview:        

 

The Senior Director, Global Head of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), will be responsible for building, leading, and developing an experienced, highly skilled, and well-trained global MSL team to support Passage Bio’s efforts to develop transformative gene therapies for rare monogenic diseases of the central nervous system.  As a core member of the Medical Affairs Leadership Team, the Senior Director, Global Head of MSLs will assist the Head of Medical Affairs to establish the long-term vision and culture for Medical Affairs and the company’s first field organization and will assist in hiring other key Medical Affairs colleagues.  He/she will be responsible for development and successful execution of detailed field medical strategic plans (objectives and tactics) based on an in-depth understanding of overall corporate objectives and the specific needs of individual clinical development programs.  Developed in close collaboration with the Head of Medical Affairs and appropriate cross-functional partners, this field medical plan will represent an important part of the overall Medical Affairs strategic plan.   The Senior Director, Head of MSLs also will be responsible for representing the field Medical Affairs team, both internally and externally, as a clinical expert supporting clinical trial execution, potential product launches, and potential new pipeline development.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

·       Build and effectively manage a high performing, collaborative field MSL team.

  • Responsible for all aspects of developing the team and individual MSLs, including career evaluation, coaching, mentoring, and performance management. Participates in the talent review process.
  • Develop and maintain clinical, scientific, and technical expertise in relevant product and disease state areas. 
  • Develop and oversee training for new MSLs and, as appropriate, colleagues in Medical Affairs and other functions.  To include design and implementation of effective training curricula and field resources that will promote Passage Bio’s reputation as a patient-oriented and science-driven organization, a reliable source of balanced medical information, and a partner in education and research with health care providers (HCPs) engaged in treating patients with rare monogenic CNS diseases.
  • In collaboration with the Head of Medical Affairs, lead the development and execution of high-quality annual field strategic and operational plans for global MSL activities, to include strategies for engagement with HCPs/key opinion leaders (KOLs) at their respective institutions and medical congresses. 

 

  • Work with Head of Medical Affairs leadership to develop a comprehensive, national and regional congress plan. 
  • Support the development and implementation of advisory boards and other scientific meetings
  • Working in conjunction with a cross-functional team focused on review of proposals for Investigator Initiated Research Studies, evaluate and prioritize potential external clinical research collaboration opportunities.  Ensure that the MSLs understand the strategic areas of research interest and are well-equipped to reactively engage with HCPs/KOLs to discuss their research interests and to facilitate the application process. 
  • Monitor the competitive landscape for specific therapeutic areas of interest to Passage Bio, including current management strategies, approved products, new/emerging therapies, and differentiating features of approved/emerging competitor products.  Contribute to CI plan for medical congresses.  Provide feedback to the senior management team on specific initiatives.
  • Develop mechanisms to ensure that internal stakeholders are informed of key insights learned by MSLs in the course of their interactions with HCPs/KOLs, especially as they may pertain to ongoing and planned clinical trials. 
  • Ensure compliance of MSLs with Passage Bio’s policies and standard operating procedures and with regulatory and other ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Present scientific, medical, and clinical trial information to limited clinical trial staff, medical thought leaders, academic institutions and payors.
  • Assist with clinical trial recruitment and site outreach as requested and communicate feedback to the Clinical Operations and Clinical Development team.
  • Address unsolicited medical questions related to Passage Bio’s clinical trials, Investigator Initiated Research Studies, and other scientific exchange.
  • Extensive travel (approx. 50%, US and international).

 

Requirements:

  • Advanced Clinical/Science degree or professional credentials required (MD/DO, PhD, PharmD, PA, NP, RN).
  • 12+ years of experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry in Medical Affairs, with 5+ years of experience building and leading field-based teams, and working with cross-functional internal teams
  • Extensive Rare Disease experience required

  • Ability to interact and communicate openly and effectively with Senior Management, team members, HCPs/KOLs, nurse coordinators and other clinical trial site staff, and payors.  To include experience conducting formal scientific presentations.  
  • Strong analytical skills, especially with regard to understanding and interpreting scientific and clinical research and literature are essential
  • Adept, nimble, energetic and comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic and collaborative environment
