Photonics Lab Manager

 

HyperLight is a venture-backed startup spun off from Harvard University in 2018 based on discoveries that enabled thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) photonics. Our photonic integrated circuits offer exceptional performance unmatched by other materials and are manufactured at high volume and low cost. We design and manufacture tailored chips to customers around the world for optical communications, sensing, and emerging photonic technologies like quantum computing and AR/VR. We partner with our customers from conceptualization to mass production to deliver new regimes of system performance.

 

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Photonics Lab Manager to join our team. The person in this position will be responsible for overseeing and supporting the day-to-day functioning of a state-of-the-art electronics lab, ensuring that high-value inventory and equipment are handled with the utmost care and collaborating closely with the larger team to establish optimal lab operations. This key hire will be an essential contributor to the entire value chain from design to testing of our high value products.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing HyperLight electronics and semiconductor test labs, ensure lab operation, keep spaces organized and functional. Inspect equipment and coordinate repairs, manage inventory, and optimize storage.
  • Work with team to manage a smooth and efficient schedule of equipment usage and maintenance.
  • Participate in test development and test activities.
  • Conduct visual inspections of semiconductor chips, identify issues, and support team efforts to uphold product standards.
  • Implement industry safety protocols, maintain safety records, and collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) teams.
  • Coordinate across departments and ensure clear communication about lab needs.
  • Assist in lab budget activities, monitor spending, and optimize resource allocation.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics) or commensurate experience.
  • Proven experience as an electronics or semiconductor testing Lab Manager or similar in a high-tech or semiconductor environment. (Biology, Life Science, or Chemistry lab experience does not meet this requirement.)
  • Familiarity with electronics lab equipment (VNA, oscilloscopes, microscopes, testers, etc.).
  • Knowledge of lab safety regulations and compliance.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong desire to learn by doing, and a bias for action.
