The Connecticut RISE Network (RISE) is a Connecticut-based non-profit organization with a mission to empower educators to achieve breakthrough results, helping all students realize and achieve their full potential. Leveraging its innovative partnership model, RISE facilitates networked improvement communities by bringing together exceptional educators working in different contexts to advance shared goals. Together, RISE's team is building community, democratizing innovation, and improving systems in public schools and districts.


RISE districts and schools commit to sharing resources and expertise, pursuing innovative solutions, strengthening school and district systems, and empowering educators and leaders through continuous improvement. Currently, RISE represents a multi-year partnership between East Hartford, Meriden, New Haven, and Hartford Public Schools, serving 6,000 students across five high schools to support educators striving to ensure every RISE high school student graduates college and career ready. RISE will expand to a second network of high schools in fall 2019, bringing its direct student impact to nearly 15,000 students across 10-12 high schools.


Position Summary and Essential Job Functions:

As RISE continues to grow as an organization, the Operations Associate will play a key role in coordinating RISE’s organizational systems and functions including finance, communications, human resources, and office management. In this role, the Operations Associate will apply their skills and knowledge to a variety of areas within nonprofit management. The Operations Associate works closely with and reports directly to the Deputy Director of Talent and Operations to ensure that RISE’s day-to-day operations run smoothly and that we continue to operate as a high-functioning team.


The Operations Associate should demonstrate strong critical thinking skills, a solutions-oriented mindset and resourcefulness in performing his/her duties and responsibilities.  A strong candidate is expected to provide high-quality customer service at all times and build and maintain effective relationships with vendors and key stakeholders. The candidate should have exceptional communication skills with the ability to write clear and compelling email correspondence, website copy, and newsletter updates for external audiences. The Operations Associate should also be comfortable and adaptable in handling a range of clerical tasks, such as processing check and reimbursement requests, booking travel, and requesting and reviewing proposals and quotes for various services.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Operations and Office Management

    • Provide administrative and operational support to ensure the organization runs smoothly on a daily basis.

    • Ensure general office upkeep by maintaining office equipment and supplies, greeting guests, responding to phone and email inquiries, and collecting and distributing mail.

    • Oversee food services, transportation, and facilities maintenance.

    • Manage key vendor relationships.

    • Assist in logistics planning and implementation for RISE Network Learning Agenda events.

  • Day-to-Day Financial Support

    • Support the Deputy Director of Talent and Operations in working with an outside accountant to complete monthly budget reports.

    • Process and record day-to-day account transactions including accounts payable and reimbursement requests.


  • Communications

    • Oversee updates to the ctrise.org website and other communications channels, including collaborating with Deputy Director of Talent and Operations to write website copy and manage relationship with web design vendor.

    • Support the writing and development of RISE newsletter for external stakeholders, including tracking relevant performance analytics and maintaining subscriber lists.

    • Assist in other communications efforts to support fundraising and stakeholder engagement, as needed.


  • Human Resources

    • Maintain systems for recruitment and hiring providing key support to the Deputy Director of Talent and Operations.

    • Process new hire paperwork and support the onboarding and offboarding processes.

  • Experience with WordPress and MailChimp or Constant Contact a plus. Willingness to learn a must.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of two years of relevant professional experience.
