The Position

The Position The Accounting Manager will be a hands-on, individual-contributor role supporting the accounting operations of a multi-entity biotech development organization. This role executes and owns key aspects of the close process, maintains accurate financial records, and applies strong technical accounting judgment to complex areas including clinical and nonclinical accruals, revenue recognition, and cost accounting. This is an experienced-level position: the ideal candidate operates independently, brings a strong technical accounting foundation, and can serve as a working-level resource to the Controller on technical matters.

This role partners closely with FP&A, providing significant support around clinical and non-clinical accrual estimates, actuals, and variance analysis.

Candidates must be able to work full days, on site, at our corporate headquarters in Redwood City, a minimum of 3 days per week and as required based on business needs.

 

Key Responsibilities

Execute assigned key components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process

Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules across multiple legal entities

Own the preparation and review of clinical and nonclinical accrual estimates in close partnership with FP&A and clinical/program stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting of actuals and variances

Process and record intercompany transactions across the multi-entity structure, including recording pass-through costs, reclass entries between entities, and intercompany billings with cost-plus markups; reconcile intercompany balances

Apply technical accounting judgment to support revenue recognition under ASC 606, including contract- and milestone-based arrangements common in CRO/CDMO environments

Support cost accounting activities, including inventory, standard costing, and manufacturing variance analysis

Research and document technical accounting positions and memos, escalating and partnering with the Controller on judgmental or complex matters

Ensure adherence to U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies

Maintain and strengthen internal controls, including documentation and audit support

Prepare schedules and documentation for external audits and tax compliance

Provide accurate, well-supported financial data and accounting analysis to FP&A, including actuals and variance support

Identify and help drive process improvements and automation within accounting

Support ERP system integrity and reporting enhancements

 

Your Background

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA or CPA-track preferred

5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably including CRO, CDMO, or biotech/pharma

Demonstrated technical accounting expertise, with the judgment to research and document positions independently

Experience with clinical trial or R&D-related accrual accounting strongly preferred

Experience with intercompany transaction accounting in a multi-entity environment, consolidation experience a plus but not required

Strong working knowledge of revenue recognition (ASC 606), including contract- and milestone-based arrangements

Exposure to cost or inventory accounting preferred

Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle)

Advanced Excel skills

High degree of ownership, attention to detail, and accuracy in a hands-on capacity

Comfortable operating independently in a lean, fast-paced environment with no direct reports

Clear and effective communication with cross-functional stakeholders, including FP&A, clinical operations, and executive leadership 

What we can offer you

We have a comprehensive total compensation package including fully paid medical, dental, and vision benefits for you and your family.  The Company also offers participation in the annual bonus program along with a new hire equity program.  The salary range for candidates located in the Bay Area is $135,000 - $158,000 annually. We consider various factors when determining the base compensation, including market survey data, experience, and directly related qualifications, which means that the actual compensation may vary depending on the candidate’s knowledge and experience.  Candidate’s with less experience than what is required may be considered for the position at a lower job title and compensation.
