Programmable Medicine (a spin-out from Ashvattha Therapeutics) is an innovative, science-driven biotechnology company dedicated to developing a new class of drugs that identify and treat diseased cells with unprecedented precision. Our proprietary hydroxyl dendrimer (HD) platform, exclusively licensed from Johns Hopkins University, allows for the creation of hydroxyl dendrimer therapeutics (HDTs), which link known small molecule drugs to HDs for selective delivery with sustained effect in diseased tissues. We believe this approach to precision medicine has the potential to change the standard of care across a wide range of diseases. As pre-revenue organization, we are focused on advancing our pipeline through research, preclinical, and early clinical development while building a scalable operational foundation.

The Director of FP&A to lead financial planning, budgeting, and strategic analysis, ensuring that our resources are aligned with scientific and corporate priorities. This individual contributor role is pivotal in providing insights to guide business and pipeline decision-making, manage cash runway, and support fundraising and partnering activities.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Financial Planning

  • Lead the annual operating plan and rolling forecast processes, integrating R&D program budgets, corporate initiatives, and capital needs.
  • Develop long-range financial models to evaluate scenarios, cash runway, and funding requirements.
  • Build product business case models, incorporating clinical development timelines, probability of technical and regulatory success, addressable market sizing, pricing/reimbursement assumptions, and revenue forecasts.

Business Partnering

  • Partner closely with R&D, clinical operations, and G&A teams to build, track, and refine budgets based on program milestones and timelines.
  • Lead the clinical trial forecasting and accrual process, ensuring alignment of clinical spend with operational progress and accurate financial reporting.
  • Translate scientific and operational plans into clear financial implications for management and the Board.
  • Work with business development team to stress-test assumptions and ensure that business cases reflect realistic scientific, operational, and market dynamics.

Management Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly management reporting packages, highlighting variances, trends, and key performance indicators.
  • Support CFO in preparing Board materials, investor presentations, and fundraising materials including articulating program value via business case outputs.

Cash & Funding Management

  • Monitor cash burn and forecast liquidity needs; proactively identify opportunities to extend runway.
  • Assist in scenario modeling for financing options, grants, and strategic partnerships.

Process & Systems

  • Implement scalable FP&A processes, tools, and systems to support company growth.
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial reporting, forecasting, and data accuracy.

Special Projects

  • Support business development deal modeling, licensing economics, and portfolio prioritization analyses.
  • Assist with due diligence processes for investors and partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field; MBA, CPA, or CFA strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 12 years of progressive FP&A or strategic finance experience, with at least 3 years in biotech/pharma or life sciences.
  • Experience in pre-revenue or early-stage companies strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of R&D program budgeting, clinical trial cost drivers, and biotech funding cycles.
  • Proven ability to build financial models from scratch and communicate insights clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and influencing skills at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability and willingness to roll up sleeves and work in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly.
