Ashvattha Therapeutics, a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company located in Redwood City, is seeking a Laboratory Operations/Research Associate.  Ashvattha Therapeutics is focused on developing novel nanomedicines, HD therapeutics (HDTs), to treat unmet medical needs in ophthalmology, neurology, inflammatory diseases, and neuro-oncology. Our HD platform builds therapeutics that are selectively taken up only by inflamed tissues, allowing us to treat diseases with unprecedented precision.
 
 
Duties and Responsibilities - Essential Functions
 
The primary function of the position is to ensure the efficient operations of the Company's laboratories, which includes – execution of health and safety protocols, management of all lab supplies including chemical  inventory, laboratory space optimization and equipment inventory and shipping of chemicals/reagents to CRO's and CDMO's. This person will serve as the primary point of contact for supporting laboratory operations for the Translational, MedChem and Clinical Supply Chain teams including:

  • Lab organization, including creating and maintaining an accurate inventory of equipment and chemicals
  • Purchasing lab reagents and maintaining the Order Tracker
  • Negotiate and manage equipment maintenance contracts, scheduling service (including developing a preventative maintenance schedule), manage maintenance records and manage the installation of new equipment.
  • In partnership with department leaders, proactively analyze equipment needs, identify vendors and partner with procurement for all orders.
  • Schedule and coordinate user training sessions on shared equipment, maintain training records and certifications.
  • Maintain up to date equipment procedure manuals; create and maintain standard operating procedures for lab equipment and processes, ensuring consistency and quality across all operations.
  • Able to perform routine maintenance on equipment and resolve basic technical issues.
  • Oversee layout, allocation, and tracking of space among multiple labs; manage logistics of laboratory moves; implement plans for renovations of equipment and or/facilities in collaboration with staff and department leaders
  • Shipment of chemicals/reagents to CROs and CDMOs both domestic and international
  • Maintaining accurate inventory of external storage materials
  • Scheduling biohazardous/chemical waste pickup and ensuring compliance with lab safety guidelines.
  • Partner with outside consultant to ensure health and safety guidelines are being followed by all laboratory staff, track and manage the scheduling of all lab related training.
  • Train all new hires on EH&S procedures and procurement process
  • Proactively recommends changes to improve lab efficiency and reduce costs'
  • Weighing and aliquoting of chemicals synthesized by MedChem, and logging into inventory
  • Tissue sample receipt from CROs and logging into inventory, and downstream processing of tissues for IHC (embedding and sectioning via cryostat or microtome) or qPCR analysis (RNA purification)
  • Image analysis and quantification of IHC/ICC studies using ImagePro or other imaging software

 
Job Requirements

•    Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Neuroscience, or related discipline. 
•    At least 5 years of experience working hands-on in a life science laboratory. Minimum 2 years’ experience in a lab operations role managing lab facilities, operations, maintenance, space, and equipment administration 
•    Proactive mindset focused on anticipating and removing obstacles that could slow down scientific progress, and a genuine enthusiasm for supporting research by creating systems that allow laboratory professionals to work efficiently. 
•    Willingness to play a hands-on role in the efficient operations of the company's laboratories. 
•    Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects in a research environment. 
•     Exceptional customer service skills. 
•    Previous experience with developing and implementing PM schedules to minimize downtime of critical equipment. 
•    Operational knowledge of laboratory equipment, able to provide basic troubleshooting of issues. 
•    Basic knowledge of federal, state and local lab related health and safety regulations. 
•    Excel at establishing and maintaining clear communication channels between different teams. 
•    Experience developing instructional materials for routine training. 
•    Must be able to work full time, on site at the Redwood City facilities.

We have a comprehensive total compensation package including fully paid medical, dental and vision benefits for you and your family.  We want all of our employees to have the opportunity to become shareholders and offer new hire stock options.  The Company also offers participation in the annual bonus program.  The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $110,000 annually. We consider various factors when determining the base compensation, including market survey data, experience, qualifications, and geographic location, which means that the actual compensation may vary.
