SUMMER RISING PROGRAM SCHEDULE
Group Leaders participate in the following Summer Rising program schedule:

Staff Training Week: Monday, June 23, 2025 - Friday, June 27, 2025; 2:00pm-6:00pm

Program: Wednesday, July 2, 2025 - Friday, August 8, 2025

Mondays - Thursdays; 2:30pm-6:00pm (afternoon)

JOB PURPOSE
Group Leaders are dynamic youth workers committed to working with the program team to deliver high quality, academically aligned arts, performance arts, sports, and/or STEM instruction to elementary, middle, or high school youth from the framework of positive youth development and social emotional literacy. This is a wonderful opportunity if you love working with children, in afterschool programs, summer programs and special projects.
Group Leaders assist Teaching Artists and Activity Specialists in all areas of programming from helping to maintain the safety and security of the children during program time, assisting in facilitating groups, following lesson plans as well as following the program’s administrative procedures and policies. Support other staff members by helping to ensure a safe, positive, and organized environment for youth participants, but not limited to the following:

Support activity projects and events as designed by Director, Teaching Artists, and Activity Specialists, through classroom management, hands-on participation, and youth engagement

Supervise youth participants to ensure a safe and fun environment

Assist with program setup

Accompany participants on field trips within the city, ensuring safe transportation procedures

Build a positive relationship with each after-school participant and foster positive connections between participants

Attend regular staff meetings and trainings and work cooperatively with other staff members in the program

Conduct oneself as a professional and representative of the agency with school staff, parents, children, and anyone else with whom you come into contact in your role

Works with site leadership to identify participants who may require additional assistance
The successful candidate will have the following Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED is required

Minimum 1 year of experience working with children and/or youth in a professional setting

Strong ability to form and maintain positive, professional relationships with children, youth, families, and other stakeholders

Responsible; punctual; organized & demonstrate positive communication skills

Able to set an example in all areas, including timeliness, attendance, and professionalism

Able to relate to officials, staff and public in a courteous manner
-
Comfortable navigating public spaces while ensuring youth safety

Willing to complete all mandated clearance paperwork for New York State and City
PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING
Pre-employment screening is required for this position, including but not limited to a criminal history check by the NYC Department of Education, and other regulating agencies as needed per placement.
