SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

JOB PURPOSE

LEAP After School Program Directors are responsible for overall site management and operations in alignment with LEAP strategic and organizational goals while integrating stakeholder customization and integration, as well as all NYS School Age Child Care laws, regulations, and policies. The After School Program Director is the overall supervisor of the LEAP Afterschool arts integrated programming, and is responsible for managing/training the staff, streamlining program curricula working closely with LEAP internal departments and Education Specialists, building capacity through community and stakeholder partnerships, and establishing an organizational structure for the program. The After School Program Director will work closely with LEAP senior staff and internal departments in alignment with LEAP’s vision and mission, and in strong partnership with school partners. 

 

SCOPE OF INFLUENCE

Creative Youth Development- 

  • Collaborates with LEAP internal departments, external stakeholders and school partners to achieve LEAP mission, student outcomes, and the development of strong school partnerships

  • Enthusiastically employs leadership style that effectively empowers, motivates, structures, and organizes site staff to provide socioemotional, physical and safe learning environment conducive to achieving student outcomes 

  • Effectively engages LEAP’s Programmatic Frameworks inclusive of but not limited to: Artistic Process, The LEAP Way, and the 4Cs (creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking) 

Arts Integration

  • Aligns with LEAP internal departments to achieve program vision and mission 

  • Responsible for creatively supporting Teaching Artists in delivering high-quality arts programming in alignment with LEAP and school partner student academic, social emotional and leadership outcomes 

 

KEY SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

The following responsibilities include pre and current COVID applicable regulations, policies, and mandates:

  • SAFETY: Ensure the safety and security of each participant by following all LEAP, and New York State School Age Child Care protocols and procedures regarding COVID-19 safety, overall safety, supervision, accident and incident reporting, works closely with school partners to arrange seamless transition from daytime to afterschool; ensure programs operates in compliance with all applicable New York State School Age Child Care Laws, Policies, Rules and Regulations

  • LEAP MISSION/VISION: Works very closely with LEAP internal departments and Leadership to achieve LEAP Mission and Vision

  •  LEAP PARTNER AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: Ensure all funder and partner agency requirements are met, including DYCD Programmatic Frameworks, Enrollment, Attendance/Rate of Participation, DYCD contract requirements, DYCD Administrative systems, and NYC DOE regulations

  • QUALIFIED STAFFING: Work with LEAP internal departments, LEAP Program Excellence function, and stakeholders to ensure staff is fully trained in a broad range of areas including arts integration, creative youth development, positive youth development, effective teaching strategies, behavior management, and positive reinforcement techniques;

  • RECRUITMENT/RETENTION: Coordinate and follow up on participant outreach, enrollment and attendance to meet programmatic goals and stakeholder benchmarks

  • EVENTS: Works closely with LEAP internal departments, campus leadership, and school partners to plan, organize, and produce LEAP, DYCD and school partnership events evidencing high quality arts programming. Events include family nights, student performances, community forums and more.

  • PROGRAMMATIC OVERSIGHT: Ensure program has necessary materials, facilities, communication systems and practices, and partnerships to provide safe, positive youth development programming; motivate, coach and counsel staff to excel; monitor participants' progress regularly; and any and all other tasks necessary for the successful operation of the program.

  • BUDGET ADHERENCE: Ensure that the budget and expenses are aligned and maintained within the organizational financial guidelines, including staffing, supplies, and other expenses. 

  •  AGENCY COMMUNICATION: Models positive communication with LEAP staff and employees, youth, school community, and stakeholders at all times

  •  INTERNAL SUPPORT: Responsible for attending ongoing professional development, and internal scheduled/unscheduled LEAP program strategy meetings, site director cohort meetings, and events

 

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Candidates for the Afterschool Program Director position must meet one of the following:

  • Associate's degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field and two years direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field of work.

  • New York State Children's Program Administrator credential and two years direct experience working with children under the age of 13 years, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field of work.

-OR-

  • School Age Child Care Credential or other Office recognized credential specific to the school-age developmental period and two years direct experience working with children under the age of 13 years, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field of work.

-OR-

  • Two years of college with 18 credits in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field and two years direct experience working with children under the age of 13 years including at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field of work.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years supervisory experience required

  • Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students in a school-based or community-based setting; after-school experience preferred

  • Familiarity with diverse ethnic and cultural communities;

  • Outstanding organizational, critical thinking and writing skills;

  • Sensitivity to parent concerns and child development issues;

  • Enthusiasm, creativity, initiative and the ability to adapt quickly to change; and

  • The proven ability to serve as a dynamic team leader
