Salary Range: $140,000-170,000 (Benefits included)

SUMMARY:
The Chief Finance and Operations Officer (CFOO) is a member of the Senior Management Team, and has broad functional responsibilities spanning Finance, Operations, Facilities Management, and Information Technology (IT). The CFOO will report to the Executive Director, will be a key strategic partner to members of the Senior Management Team, and will work closely with the Board Finance and Audit Committee in support of LEAP’s mission and strategy. This is an excellent opportunity for a strategic financial and operational leader with demonstrated success leading large, complex financial operations in an educational and/or non-profit setting with particular attention to detailed financial planning and the strategic allocation of resources to achieve a mission. The candidate should be willing and available to work both in person in the office, at a program location, and remotely throughout the week.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key Responsibilities of the Chief Finance and Operations Officer include:

Financial Leadership

  • Collaborate to develop and lead an inclusive, transparent, and timely annual budgeting and forecasting process that engages all managers and results in a balanced budget annually

  • Develop multi-year financial models and projections, aligned with LEAP’s strategic direction.

  • Monitor and implement monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing procedures to ensure compliance with all finance standards, legal requirements, and best practices in the sector.

  • Provide monthly reports and analysis to the Board of Directors and Senior Management Team on the financial state of the organizations and its programs and departments.

  • Maintain records and oversee the annual independent audit as well as other outside audits conducted by funding agencies or other governmental entities

  • Lead key financial processes  for the organization including fiscal contract management and invoicing and collections from multiple public agencies including NYC DYCD and Department of Education

  • Create and implement plans for the improvement of finance infrastructure including financial management software and other tools that enable reporting and analysis.

  • Manage and lead the team including the Senior Manager of Finance and other team members to define and develop flexible and durable systems that support the need to budget, forecast, and monitor costs at a granular level.

  • Project and monitor cash management flow throughout the year to ensure resources are available to support over $1MM per month burn rate.

Organizational and Team Leadership

  • Support efforts in establishing and cultivating a culture rooted in anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Lead and manage a finance and operations team, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

  • Model effective communication and collaboration in approaching all aspects of the role.

  • Coach and develop staff to promote a growth mindset and the development of a service culture that centers our youth.

  • Promote a culture of mutual respect, trust, and personal growth by designing systems to gather feedback from staff on a range of subjects through surveys and other tools.

  • Collaborate with the executive team and the board of directors, providing financial expertise and strategic guidance on organizational matters.

  • Develop and deliver presentations and training related to finance and other topics in the portfolio of responsibility

 

 

Operations and Administration:

  • Partner with the Senior Management Team to understand, define and implement procedures and systems to meet the operational needs of all programs and departments and enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance.

  • Partner with the Executive Director and the Senior Management Team to build operational capacity and infrastructure to support growth and sustainability 

  • Collaborate with the Board and Senior Management Team to develop and enhance an organizational performance management system to monitor organizational efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Oversee the organization's administrative functions and personnel including facilities, purchasing, and administrative support in support of all departments and aligned with our mission and goals

  • Lead the IT functions by developing strategy, managing systems, and partnering with vendors to provide supportive technology and software for all staff and functions

  • Manage the required portfolio of  insurances and  lead risk management efforts that ensure a safe, sustainable, and compliant organization. 

 

Grants and Fundraising Support:

  • Collaborate with the Development team to support grant applications, budget development, donor relations, and fundraising efforts.

  • Provide financial analysis and reporting to donors, demonstrating the utilization and  impact of their contributions.

  • Work closely with program managers to ensure proper financial tracking and reporting for grant-funded projects.

Requirements:

  • Minimum ten (10) years of professional work experience and demonstrated success in leading large and complex finance and operations teams in an educational and/or non-profit setting.

  • A bachelor’s degree is required, and a master’s degree is preferred.

  • Ability to develop sophisticated financial models and analysis to support the development and management of a detailed and complex budget.

  • An ability to develop and utilize data and reporting dashboards to inform results and enable decision making.

  • Specific experience in managing significant government funding and the contracting, administration, tracking, and invoicing of public funding including NYC DYCD and Department of Education grants and contracts

  • Exceptional communication and collaborations skills and proven ability to design and implement solutions to complex problems involving multiple stakeholder groups.

  • Excellent organization skills and an ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activities.

  • Ability to inspire, build trust, and establish rapport quickly.

  • An ability to be self-reflective and to seek and provide feedback.

  • A passion for youth development, access to the arts, and equity in education

  • Ability to plan special projects, work independently and exercise independent judgment.

  • Experience with Google Workspace and various finance and accounting software is required.
