The CMM Operator/Programmer is responsible for programming, setting up and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) in order to make complex, precise measurements of the requisite materials and parts. They also perform visual and dimensional inspections on parts to determine their accuracy to parts specifications, as well as, training and mentoring other CMM operators in CMM inspection techniques.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Sets up and operates CMM in order to make complex, precise measurements of materials and parts
  • Reads and interprets specifications, blueprints, templates and layouts for product tolerances and dimensions
  • Verified conformance of parts to specifications and blueprints with respect to measurements
  • Provide manufacturing with 1st piece and in-process data to ensure parts conformance
  • Writes or modifies existing programs and creates new ones as required
  • Interprets measurement output data and graphic data
  • Work with engineering, machinists and quality assurance personnel to trouble shoot, research and solve technical problems
  • Train other employees in CMM technology and application
  • Generates alternate CMM Programs to Support First Article Inspection Reports and Production CMM Program validation

 

Requirements:

  • Technical certificate in related field required, Associate or Bachelor degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3+ years experience in a manufacturing - aerospace environment
  • Good communications skills, written/verbal, with all levels of personnel
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Proficient in coordinate measuring machine techniques and application
  • Knowledge and ability to program CMM's using PC-DMIS software
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints and other technical data including geometric dimensioning and tolerance
  • Proficient in use of precision measuring tools
  • Strong mathematical and mechanical skills
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, CNC equipment, quality standards and rework processes
  • Experience with quality systems and their application
  • Problem solving skills and experience
