The Pat Tillman Foundation (PTF) unites and empowers remarkable military veterans and spouses as the next generation of public and private sector leaders committed to service beyond self. Inspired by Pat Tillman, who proudly put his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals on hold to serve his country, family and friends established the Pat Tillman Foundation following Pat’s death in April 2004 while serving with the 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan. Over the last 16 years, the Pat Tillman Foundation has supported nearly 700 Tillman Scholars as they’ve furthered their education and increased their professional impact in the world.


PTF seeks a highly motivated, team-oriented Development Manager to partner with another Develop Manager and the Director of Development and manage all aspects of the Foundation’s stewardship program. In addition, the Development Manager is responsible for managing the Team Tillman fundraising program, Third party and other Foundation Events.

What You’ll Do

General Responsibilities:

  • Manage stewardship process and create reports tracking donor/prospect activities.

  • Develop and manage relationships with individual, corporate, and institutional funders

  • Manage website giving, company and online donation process across multiple platforms.

  • Research foundations, corporations and government grant opportunities to identify likely prospects and areas of potential interest

    • Requests grant applications as needed

    • Maintains calendar of all grant-related deadlines Prepares monthly grant analysis schedule including: applications, intake forms, reports, and thank you letters

  • Represent PTF in person and online in response to general development inquiries.

  • Manage Associate Board that serves as a high-engagement group of event supporters in Chicago.


Database Management:

  • Manage development data to include all contributions: daily input, edits, posting, and verification. Data makes PTF development work; you make the data work.

  • Manage all database related projects including conversion and software updates.

    • Serve as primary contact to CRM software consultant.

  • Create fundraising reports in response to requests, and in response to anticipated needs, to the CEO, board and staff.  

  • Coordinate the selection of data in preparation of mailings – ensure the accuracy of the data provided and oversee the production of letters, envelopes, mailing labels and other data as required.

  • Provide development content to be shared on event pages, via newsletter, and through other channels. 


PTF Events & Third Party:

  • Manage logistics of fundraising events including budget and timeline from start to finish

    • Create an event analysis report with conclusions and recommendations 

    • Track event attendees, donors, supporters and acknowledgement.

    • Project manage events and PTF teammates against project timeline (including timing for promotional materials, dates, date promotional materials will be displayed, dates event talent/activities to be confirmed, etc.).

  • Drive all efforts for Team Tillman, our peer to peer fundraising program for athletic events. 

    • Ensure Team Tillman members are empowered to represent PTF, and feel like a part of the broader PTF community. 

    • Recruit, cultivate, communicate with and coach fundraising runners.

    • Manage Team Tillman Rewards leading up to and during race week.

    • Work with marathons across the country to secure fundraising spots for new Team Tillman opportunities.

  • Develop and manage fundraising goals and revenue for all “Third Party” and other events.

  • Recruit, build and steward relationships with media partners, volunteers, etc.


This position will report to the Director of Development  and is based in Chicago, IL or New York, NY and will team with another Development Manager who is based in Tempe, AZ.  Periodic travel is required. The position is available immediately.
