Position Summary 

Responsible for the safe and ongoing maintenance, repair, and replacement of plant equipment, machinery, and systems to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the company.  

 

Essential Functions 

  • Participate in objective setting, plan development, and performance review of plant.   

  • Work with Plant Manager to support and execute continuous improvements, efficiencies, and safety efforts.  

  • Initiate, implement, and manage the plant maintenance program based on best practices in the Insulated Metal Panel industry and manufacturer recommendations, with an emphasis on production planning/scheduling and preventive/predictive maintenance.   

  • Monitor the use and inventory of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and initiate reordering when necessary.   

  • Maintain and repair maintenance shop equipment.   

  • Establish/maintain a computerized maintenance management system for tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history of plant equipment.   

  • Prepare reports, analyze data, and make recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance-related issues.   

  • Assist with hiring maintenance personnel.   

  • Supervise plant maintenance personnel and janitorial/grounds keeping personnel and ensure performance and productivity standards are met.  

  • Maintain knowledge of basic HR principles and standards to ensure compliance.  

  • Conduct timely employee performance reviews based on job descriptions, performance & productivity standards, and improvement to determine competency, knowledge, and contribution toward department goals and continuous improvement.  

  • Ensure that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.   

  • Communicate regularly with all maintenance technicians, both individually and as a group, to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues and company initiatives/goals.  

  • Maintain and update operating and training manuals for the maintenance department. Ensure that all maintenance technicians and janitors are trained in the most up-to-date version of the operating procedures.   

  • Monitor operation of plant equipment and systems and make recommendations to improve efficiency and output. Carry out approved projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.   

  • Identify and implement strategies to improve quality of service, productivity, and profitability.   

  • Ensure facility and grounds are kept clean, neat, and well landscaped and scheduled so as to not hinder the functions of surrounding personnel.  

  • Review the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement.   

  • Track, analyze and improve key maintenance parameters such as asset utilization, maintenance cost, PM compliance, schedule compliance, etc.   

  • Maintain safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures, including OSHA/CalOSHA Standards.   

  • Ensure city, county, state, federal, and other regulations relating to the maintenance department are always met.   

  • Comply with all safety and company policies and procedures and be an example for subordinates to follow.  

  • Direct, maintain, and enforce the safety program for the maintenance department.   

  • review safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance technicians.   

  • Communicate directly with appropriate departments to coordinate maintenance, repair work, and other activities in process areas.   

  • Communicate directly with QC personnel to ensure effective participation by the maintenance technicians in the implementation of QC policies and procedures.   

  • Plan, prioritize, and delegate work tasks to ensure proper functioning of the department. 

  • Completes training by supervisor. 

  • Complies with all safety and company policies and procedures. 

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience 

  • Proficient in electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, AND pneumatics.  

  • Experience working with PLC i/o’s, knowledge of VFD and motor control.  

  • Supervisory experience  

  • Knowledge of OSHA standards as well as other Federal, State, and Local regulations and standards.   

  • Proficient with MS Office and other commonly used office software, particularly MS Excel.  

Physical Requirements  

  • Ability to work up to 12 hours per day. Hours, days and shifts depend on the season and production schedule and are not guaranteed.   

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, crouch, lean, reach, twist, and other physical movements for extended periods of time.  

  • Ability to work in conditions typical of a manufacturing environment as indicated below under “Working Environment”.  

  • Ability to wear prescribed personal protective equipment and appropriate clothing.  

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.   

  • Ability to read, write, type, and verbally communicate fluently in English.  

  • Must be able to effectively use a computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and commonly used software to complete necessary functions assigned.  

  • Must have finger dexterity, visual acuity, discernment of sounds, color, and texture.  

  • Must be able to use tools, equipment, machinery, etc.  

  • Must be reliable and dependable.  

  • Must have the physical and mental ability to drive a standard forklift successfully. AWIP will certify.   

 

Working Environment 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise environments, chemicals used in the process, and extreme temperatures. The facility is an industrial manufacturing plant.
