Position Summary
The Drafter Level II is responsible for producing intermediate‑to‑advanced AutoCAD and Revit drawings for insulated metal panel (IMP) projects. This role performs drafting tasks with moderate independence, prepares accurate material take‑offs and bills of materials, and completes shop drawings of standard to moderately complex difficulty. The Drafter maintains a solid understanding of AWIP products, drafting workflows, calculation tools, and construction principles, while supporting Level I Drafters and collaborating with senior Drafting team members and Project Managers to ensure project accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to AWIP standards.
Essential Functions
- Use Revit and AutoCAD to create accurate drawings of IMP structures in accordance with AWIP drafting standards, construction practices, and project requirements.
- Modify, develop, and maintain Revit families and integrate them into project templates with minimal supervision. • Complete drafting assignments and BoMs accurately and consistently, including projects with moderate complexity or multiple special conditions.
- Extract and interpret information from customer drawings; coordinate with Project Managers and Sales to clarify missing or conflicting details.
- Apply a working understanding of AWIP calculation processes and engineering concepts to ensure drafting accuracy (without independently modifying engineering methods).
- Perform detailed planchecks and BOM reviews for standard or moderate-difficulty projects prepared by Level I Drafters.
- Support Level I Drafters by providing guidance on drafting practices, Revit/AutoCAD usage, and AWIP procedures.
- Manage personal project schedules with increasing independence, prioritizing tasks according to drafting workloads and deadlines.
- Maintain solid understanding of construction engineering terminology, IMP system behavior, and product application limits.
- Follow and reinforce AWIP SOPs, best practices, and drafting standards, identifying inconsistencies and elevating concerns to Supervisors.
- Participate in team training sessions and contribute to the development of internal drafting resources and tools as assigned.
- Complete all required training, including in-person sessions conducted by Supervisors or senior Drafting team members.
- Comply with all company, departmental, and safety policies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in AutoCAD required; working proficiency in Revit strongly preferred.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and architectural details with increasing accuracy.
- Ability to create and edit AutoCAD blocks, manage drawing layers, and prepare properly formatted layouts.
- Intermediate skills with PDF markup tools such as Bluebeam or Adobe Acrobat.
- Working knowledge of core AWIP products, IMP system behavior, and common connection details.
- Strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams (Project Managers, senior Drafting team members, Sales).
- Ability to follow established drafting standards and contribute observations for process improvement.
- Ability to provide support and instruction to Level I Drafters on standard drafting tasks.
- Strong problem-solving ability with initiative to research missing information or request clarification.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Proficiency with Box, WhatsApp, or similar productivity tools.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical drafting certificate or relevant coursework preferred.
- 2–4 years of professional experience using AutoCAD and Revit, or equivalent proficiency.
- Experience working with IMPs, building envelope systems, metal buildings, or related construction fields preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills, including consistent attention to detail.
- Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Intermediate skill level in Box, WhatsApp.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work the core hours of 8am- 5pm Monday thru Friday with ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
- Finger dexterity, visual acuity, color and texture discernment.
- Ability to regularly work in conditions typical of an office environment, and occasionally work in conditions typical of a manufacturing environment, including noise, extreme temperatures and humidity, odors, dust, etc.
- Ability to wear prescribed personal protective equipment and appropriate clothing.
- Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate fluently in English.
- Ability to effectively use a telephone, computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and common office equipment and machinery.
- Ability to interact effectively and with clients, contractors, employees, and other individuals.
- Ability to function effectively with moderate to high levels of stress in a demanding and dynamic environment.
- Must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time and consistently produce accurate work product, organized thoughts, and execute sound judgment.
- Must be reliable and dependable.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Ability to work remotely as required by management.
Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise environments, chemicals used in the process, and extreme temperatures. The facility is an industrial manufacturing plant.
