Local Area Networks/Systems Administration
Duties:
- Load, configure, integrate, upgrade, and maintain the Closed Restricted Network (CRN), hardware, operating systems, and application software in a Live, Virtual, Constructive-Gaming Simulations (LVC-G) environment.
- Perform LAN/Network Hardware IP and VLAN configuration and management.
- Configure, install, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot data networking server, firewall, router,
hub, and switch hardware, as well as transmission means (fiber optics, cabling, wireless, data over
voice, etc.) and protocols to ensure IA requirements are met.
- Provide liaison support while performing Information Management Officer (IMO) functions.
- Assist the students with verbal and/or written advice in the preparation, modification, use, verification and validation, configuration management, and storage of necessary training and exercise databases along with associated supporting documentation, gathering.
- Collect necessary training and exercise data IAW Defense Modeling Simulation Office (DMSO) Modeling and Simulation Resource Repository (MSRR) and storing all AAR products.
- Establish and maintain communication interfaces with established MC and ABCS to provide services for training and exercises to include, but not limited to VoIP technologies and software such as Comm Net Radio (CNR), Ventrilo, and ASTi Voisus for providing communications and interoperability for LVC-G Simulations/ Simulators, and radio over IP bridging.
- Perform Preventative Maintenance Checks and Services (PCMS) on the equipment.
- Configure the simulations/networking related hardware and verify that all hardware connected for an event is operational within 24 hours prior to the start of training.
- Load, configure, manage, integrate, and maintain all applicable Operating System and MC Application Software and verify that all software elements for an event are operational within 24 hours prior to the start of training.
- Load, configure, manage, integrate, and maintain all applicable software in use by simulation/simulator systems to include but is not limited to Device drivers, BIOS, and Firmware.
- Load, configure, manage, integrate and maintain all Application software in use by simulation/simulator systems at the Clarke Simulation Center, to include but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Windows Server, Exchange, SharePoint, Active Directory, VMware vSphere, VMware Workstation, Elastic Sky X (ESX), Elastic Sky X improved (ESXi), VMware Data Recovery, ThinApp, View, CPCE, CSEP, JBC-P, JCR, STE, and FBCB2-BFT
- Conduct connectivity tests of the individual training classrooms, classroom internal network, the collective training networks and equipment, and the simulations center training network/systems.
- Provide simulations network systems administration and management.
- Conduct preliminary technical studies to system and service changes, or proposed changes in simulations hardware, operating system software and communications protocol configurations, to meet specific automation, data communications, and Information Assurance (IA) requirements.
- Evaluate the benefits and risks of implementing alternative configurations at the Sim Center.
- Conduct analysis of customer needs for enhanced data communications services including items such as simulations network servers, modems, multiplexors, concentrators, routers, hubs, switches, and other Large Area Network (LAN) devices and implement approved solutions internal to Simulations Center.
Background Requirements:
- Have a working knowledge of loading, configuring, managing, maintaining, and integrating application software such as Microsoft Office, Windows Server, Exchange, SharePoint, Active Directory, VMware vSphere, VMware Workstation, Elastic Sky X (ESX), Elastic Sky X improved (ESXi), VMware Data Recovery, ThinApp, View, CPCE, CSEP, JBC-P, JCR, STE, and FBCB2-BFT.
- Have a working knowledge of the currently used Live, Virtual, and Constructive-Gaming Simulation Software (LVC-G) applications, Live, Virtual, Constructive-Gaming Simulations (LVC-G), Linux, and Unix.
- Have knowledge or certifications equivalent to a Cisco Certified Network Associate for Cisco type network equipment and other certifications required by DoD 8570.01-M required for their position category or specialty and level.
