Purpose: Provide resident training and instruction to students attending Field Artillery Warrant Officer Basic Course (WOBC) and Warrant Officer Advanced Course (WOAC). Conduct academic instruction, provide input for updates/training to the Program of Instruction (POI); and maintain and update lesson plans in support of the Field Artillery WOBC and WOAC courses.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow the government provided Program of Instruction (POI) and teach to standard the contents of each POI. This includes ensuring class begins and ends on time IAW the government approved schedule. Ensure all required resources are on hand and in good working condition NLT 30 minutes prior to beginning of scheduled training.
  • Ensure at the end of each module that all students complete a Course Evaluation Assessment (critique). Provide the critiques to the FA Warrant Officer Instruction Branch (WOIB) Course Manager or his/her designated representative within 2 business days of the end of each class.
  • Evaluate students on their assigned subject matter underoom and simulated conditions. The instructors must maintain competence as their assigned position, which requires continual self-education on emerging technological advances in Field Artillery capabilities and updates to doctrine. The instructors will coordinate with the WOIB Course Manager or his/her designated representative for review and approval of all training sessions.
  • Administer examinations, evaluate test results, correlate test results of the students’ ability, and provide recommendations of academic deficiency to the WOIB Course Manager.
  • Analyze individual and class academic duty performance and provide recommendations for improvement to the WOIB Course Manager concerning course materials, methods of instruction, and performance evaluation when requested.
  • Responsible for assisting in the preparation, set-up, and tear-down of all necessary equipment and/or resources prior to and at the conclusion of daily operations.
  • Responsible for assisting and preparing the development of Training schedules through TMSS (Training Management Scheduling System).
  • Responsible for maintaining Blackboard with updated POI and training shells for each student to use.
  • Assist with in-processing and graduation of each class, to include filling out administrative data, course programs, and scripts.
  • Be familiar with the Army’s EES (Evaluation Entry System) and write DA1059s (Army Academic Evaluation Reports).
  • Have knowledge of Key Control, Army Property accountability, and be able to attend training meeting in support of WOIB.
  • Responsible for writing and / or providing input to ensure POI is current and up to date based on current doctrine and close interaction with DOT-D and TDC (Training Development Center).
  • Support the Center for the Army Profession and Leadership (CAPL) initiative on Project Athena. Attend instructor training, execute student assessments in accordance with Project Athena, coordinate with CAPL, and provide updates to WOIB Course Manager and Army leadership.
  • Conduct administrative requirements outlined in the FA Warrant Officer Instruction Branch Standard Operating Procedures.


Position Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Active SECRET clearance
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of/a combination of the following Field Artillery positions with the US Army or USMC:


· Brigade/Regimental/Division Targeting Officer/NCO

· Battalion/Regimental/Division Counterfire Officer/NCO

· Target Acquisition Platoon Leader


  • Proof of qualified experience can be included from any of the below forms or a combination of the following:

· DD Form 214 reflecting an Honorable Discharge

· Officer Record Brief (ORB) / Enlisted Record Brief (ERB)

· Officer Evaluation Report (OER) / NCO Evaluation Report (NCOER)

· Instructor Training Certificate (ABIC or CFD-IC or service equivalent)


  • Graduate of FA WOAC, FA Captains’ Career Course, or FA Advanced Leaders’ Course.
  • Current certification or previously certified within the past 12 months on Target Mensuration Only (TMO), Collateral Damage Estimate (CDE), and Weaponeering. If certification is out of tolerance, candidate must be able to pass TMO, CDE, and Weaponeering.
  • Master Resiliency Training (MRT) or capable of passing MRT.
