Job Summary
SFA – Cultural Role Player participates in military training exercises that simulate real world situations and “patterns of life” in an Operational Environment. The position typically portrays Foreign Security Force (FSF) commanders, primary staff officers, translators, and foreign civil leaders. Roles include various scripted and unscripted roles of members of the village, as well as roles of village officials (provincial or district governor, mayor, advisor, judge, police chief), insurgents, police, interpreter, and army or other military or para-military personnel. This position supports Security Forces Assistance Course.
Essential Functions:

· Portray several roles of indigenous people in a province, district, or village
· Individuals must be able to perform rotational duties as military interpreters for the training unit
· Personnel shall have cultural experience for a target country or region in order to provide a realistic cultural/interpreter training experience (i.e. instruction, and instructional design support)
· Support both day-time vignettes executed in classroom, field conditions on the range and training area
· Demonstrate in-depth familiarity with the culture, economics, history, and social/ethnic/tribal aspects of the target region where US Military operations are occurring.
· Navigate the mission area complying with applicable DoD/installation procedures
Competencies
· Possess excellent verbal & written English plus one or more target languages skills to include the ability to listen & interpret messages correctly
· Demonstrate excellent knowledge of the US military operations supporting host nations, familiar with cultural aspects of both nations and ability to navigate smoothly between both cultures
· Perform mission-related duties in a manner that ensures mission success within safety constraints
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
Work Environment
This job operates in an outdoor field environment in anticipated climate conditions (i.e. heat, humidity, sleet, rain) on a U.S. military installation.
Physical Demands
The physical demands describe here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee should be capable of performing their assigned work moving distances up to 3 kilometers (KM) over uneven ground and may have to remain standing for extended periods of time order to support training. Additionally, the employee must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds in scenario and during OE set-up/tear down as a member of administrative work teams and carrying all associated data collection devices and equipment props in support of the training environment.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Work hours are based on course requirements, daily hours average 8 hours per day with some work in excess of 10 hours. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available for majority of work hours, working days and works as needed as a part time employee. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Employee must be reachable for coordinating work schedules.
Travel
Must live within 450 miles of Ft. Benning, GA.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
· Minimum High School Diploma
· Able to speak, read, and write in both English and target language at the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) 3 level or equivalent. Preferred languages (Pashto, Dari, Urdu).
· Previous experiences as Linguist/Cultural Advisor/ role player.
· Functional knowledge of using internet and Microsoft applications.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills
· Bachelor degree
· Military background in US Army or foreign countries Army
· Past experience as a linguist or/and culture advisor CONUS and OCONUS
