Explosives Safety Subject Matter Expert — Explosive SME
Location: Arlington, Virginia with nationwide travel
Employment: Full-time; approximately 1,872 hours annually
Status: Contingent upon contract award
Explosives Safety Subject Matter Expert to support Army National Guard CASDAP assessments. The SME will evaluate explosives and range-safety programs and provide recommendations that protect personnel and property while improving compliance with applicable Army and Department of Defense requirements.
Responsibilities
- Support remote and onsite explosives and range-safety assessments.
- Evaluate compliance with explosives-safety laws, policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Assess ammunition and explosives storage, hazard classification, inventory, disposition, and risk-management practices.
- Evaluate quantity-distance siting criteria and associated personnel-safety requirements.
- Identify conditions that could contribute to intentional or unintentional detonations.
- Recommend controls that reduce explosives-related risks and mishaps.
- Review corrective-action plans and identify recurring trends or program weaknesses.
- Prepare assessment findings, technical recommendations, trip reports, and trend analyses.
- Advise the CASDAP team and Government stakeholders on explosives and range-safety matters.
Qualifications
- Extensive professional experience in explosives, ammunition, or range safety.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Army or DoD explosives-safety requirements.
- Experience evaluating munitions storage, explosives hazards, and quantity-distance criteria.
- Strong inspection, risk-assessment, analytical, and report-writing skills.
- Army, ARNG, installation-safety, ammunition-management, or range-operations experience is preferred.
- Relevant explosives-safety and occupational-safety training or certifications are desired.
This position does not require physically handling explosives or chemical surety materials. Candidates must be eligible for installation access, a favorable background investigation, and a Common Access Card.
Note: The anticipated salary range for this contingent upon award position is $110,000 to $140,000 annually. The final offered salary will be determined by the candidate's specific qualifications, relevant experience, location, and the final funding level approved by the client upon contract award.
