Position:


The Vice President, Clinical Research will lead the Clinical Sciences function within Dermavant, reporting to the Chief Medical Officer. In addition to the leading the Clinical Sciences function, the VP will also lead one or more program study teams, ensuring successful delivery of nonclinical, CMC, and clinical project milestones. The VP of Clinical Research will be responsible for the scientific design of clinical studies in collaboration with the clinical operations team. The individual will be involved with the full scope of clinical drug development activities from preclinical research through Phase 4 studies.


Responsibilities:


  • Oversee scientific execution of global clinical studies, including the planning, design, implementation and execution of clinical programs and the design, preparation and initiation of study protocols.
  • Have accountability for delivery of clinical study plan along with clinical operations lead that are aligned with the clinical development plan and are ethical and consistent with standard of care and local practices.
  • Support data analysis and assembly, including clinical study report writing, contribution to the preparation of abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts. Interpret clinical data; research, interact with and select investigators for clinical studies and post approval support (US and globally) and supply information on resource requirements to relevant groups.
  • Identify, engage and liaise with investigators and key opinion leaders regarding program strategy and scientific advice.
  • Serve as an internal expert with regard to the science of the field, the competitive landscape in research, and the current state of treatment in areas of unmet medical need.
  • Review potential in-licensing candidates and present recommendations to Senior Management groups, if requested. Support any needed due diligence and prepare/present medically sound strategy and plans associated with advanced opportunities.
  • Contribute and support department and clinical initiatives to improve the quality and content of all clinical programs as well as the cross functional/organization processes designed to effectively deliver the Company's R&D portfolio.
  • Oversee, mentor and provide leadership to subordinates and colleagues involved in clinical trial execution.



Qualifications:


  • M.D. with Board Certification in a specialty is preferred; or Ph.D. with extensive drug development experience in dermatology or related fields.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of successful biotechnology / pharmaceutical clinical development experience
  • Well-developed and demonstrable leadership and management skills with experience leading development teams.
  • Experience with the design and execution of clinical trials, including early phase studies, regulatory agency interactions and responses.
  • Ability to critically evaluate the strategies for the clinical development of a product and the ability, using medical expertise, to independently conceptualize and critically evaluate clinical programs and clinical trial designs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization and to lead influentially. Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills; detailed oriented, an independent and critical thinker.
  • Excellent communication skills and written, verbal and presentation skills. A credible ‘thought leader’ capable of inspiring others and creating a dynamic environment that fosters innovation in thought and execution, as well as transparency.
  • Demonstrated initiative and exceptional judgment, integrity, and ethics. Honesty, openness, and transparency are valued.
  • Ability to travel (up to 25%; domestic and international).
