Position:


Reporting to the Chief Business & Strategy Officer (“CBSO”), this individual will provide strong business leadership in assessing and guiding the long-range strategic direction through acquisitions, collaborations and licensing agreements. Identifies, investigates, and analyzes new pharmaceutical opportunities for strategic "fit". The individual will work with appropriate stakeholders across the organization to ensure an understanding of the strategy, how it affects their function, and that the function is working toward that strategy. The Director of Business Development will evaluate and successfully develop business opportunities and collaborations, lead the development and negotiation of outside commercial partnerships, alliances, joint ventures, and licensing agreements


Responsibilities:


  • Structures terms and negotiates definitive agreements to secure product rights
  • Drives the deal process from first contact with potential clients to execution of agreements
  • Identifies new opportunities to support Dermavant’s businesses (companies, technologies, services, tools, assets, candidates, products)
  • Partner with company leaders and other key personnel to define and execute strategies for acquiring/licensing external assets
  • Coordinates the evaluation and diligence of new opportunities across multiple functional areas including Research, Clinical, Regulatory, Commercial, Manufacturing, Finance, Legal, Intellectual Property and other groups
  • Independently and in collaboration with internal groups, works to provide detailed economic analyses of new opportunities (e.g., market research, business intelligence, competitive analysis, development plan, commercial forecast, NPV analyses) to inform business decisions Generate and build financial models contemplating various scenarios for Dermavant’s programs and pipeline
  • Formulate plans based on these discussions with actionable steps; work with appropriate stakeholders to implement said plan
  • Drive the identification and assessment of potential business opportunities (market research, business intelligence, competitive and scientific analysis). Deliver robust analyses that inform business decisions
  • Conduct landscape analyses and therapeutic area overviews; refine into reports and presentations; present reports and presentations to LT and appropriate stakeholders
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders as appropriate to gather, generate, share, and present meaningful information and data across the organization
  • Presents business rationale, analyses and proposals to senior executives and interface with senior management to reach agreement
  • Develops deal concepts and negotiates term sheets and definitive agreements
  • Works closely with Dermavant’s corporate legal group and finance groups to structure and execute transactions.



Qualifications:


  • PhD, MBA or other advanced degree in Life Sciences, Business, Medicine or Law
  • 5-10 years experience in the pharmaceutical, life sciences or related industry, preferably in commercial, business development, or project leader/project management role
  • Deal sheet demonstrating leadership in identifying and evaluating deals, driving business decisions and negotiating complex arrangements.
  • Strong experience in drug development
  • Strong leadership and self-direction
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to lead, interact with, focus, negotiate, resolve conflict
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, prioritize and resolve key project and partnership issues
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and excellence in project management and effectively managing multiple projects/priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and coordinate demands from multiple customers, both internally and with partners. Must be able to handle ambiguity well.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a matrix team
  • Participation in development and life cycle management project teams
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to efficiently and productively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Preferred: Knowledge and experience in medical dermatology markets
  • Experience in global markets (e.g., EU, Japan, and other)
