Job Summary:

Functions under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse to assist in providing care and implementing delegated activities of hemodialysis treatment and related renal care to patients. The Certified Hemodialysis Technician reports directly to the nurse in charge. The Certified Hemodialysis Technician has direct responsibility to ensure that all tasks delegated are performed in accordance with PLR policies and procedures as well as state and federal regulations.

Qualifications:

A. Experience and Education:

• High school diploma or GED required

• Certified as a hemodialysis technician by a nationally recognized organization and state.

Some states may require state certification in addition to certification.

• Successful completion of the Color-Blind Test per state requirement

• Current CPR certification

B. Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to speak, read, write and comprehend English

• Ability to perform basic mathematical functions

• Ability to use reasonable care in carrying out verbal and written instruction

Job Specific Accountabilities:

The statements below describe the general nature and level of work being performed in this role. They

1. Sets up hemodialysis equipment and initiates, monitors, and discontinues dialysis treatments per

Pure Life Renal policies and procedures.

2. Priming of dialyzers including all safety checks related to the reuse of dialyzers.

3. Performs and records physical measurements including weight and vital signs pre and post-treatment. Questions patients regarding their general health and response to the previous dialysis treatment. Observation of fistula or graft for bruit and thrill. Notify RN if redness or swelling is noted.

4. Monitors patients throughout their hemodialysis treatment including vital signs, machines checks, emergency intervention and tends to miscellaneous patient needs.

5. Charting of treatment information, routine tests, etc. per procedure neatly and legibly.

6. Cleaning of dialysis machines, patient chairs, and other ancillary equipment as needed.

7. Restocking of supplies, set-up, etc. as needed.

8. Performance of lab assignments, including the preparation and labeling of blood and other

specimens per procedure.

9. Preparation of bicarb and acid concentrate.

10. Responsibility for notifying the Charge Nurse of any aspect of a patient's condition which warrants further attention, whether it is medical, psychosocial, dietary, etc.

11. Performance of any ancillary duties, which contributes to the smooth operation of the facility, provided the duties are within his/her ability to perform.

12. Transfers/transports of patients within the facility with sufficient help from other staff.

13. Maintenance and Appearance of the unit and unit equipment including the daily maintenance cleaning of their assigned work area, assigned additional duty areas, and equipment assigned or used by the CHT.

14. It is the responsibility of the CHT to maintain their certification as well as to complete all mandatory annual competencies, training, in-services per the requirements of the job. The employee is also responsible for attending all staff meetings, in-services, and training offered by the company. If unable to attend, the employee is responsible for arranging alternative plans for completion with the Facility Administrator.

15. Attends staff meetings, in-service meetings, and completes mandatory OSHA training, Abuse Reporting, HIPAA, and Corporate Compliance training.

16. Other duties as assigned
