Job Summary:

The Home Program Nurse is a qualified professional nurse responsible for the care of ESRD patients. They assemble, tests, operates and    services equipment used for peritoneal dialysis and training.

 

Qualifications:

             Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed as a Registered Nurse.

             One year experience in nursing with an additional 3 months’ experience in peritoneal dialysis.

             Certification of completion of peritoneal dialysis training.

             CPR Certification.

 

Job Specific Accountabilities:

The statements below describe the general nature and level of work being performed in this role. They are not intended to be a complete    list of all duties, and additional responsibilities may be delegated as required.

1.            Nursing evaluation of the patient and his/her response to peritoneal dialysis/home hemodialysis.

2.            Participates in direct patient care and peritoneal dialysis training. Documents response to training program by the patient and/or significant other. Documents successful completion of the program. Any patient who performs aspects of self-dialysis care must be trained and verified as competent prior to independently performing any part of his/her care.

3.            Monitoring of equipment and patient as needed.

4.            Administering I.V. solutions as ordered.

5.            Knowledgeable about all equipment or medications necessary for peritoneal dialysis.

6.            Administers medications as ordered.

7.            Initiation of life-savings corrective measures, including those necessary in treating shock.

8.            Drawing blood specimen for lab analysis.
