Working with the President of the company on a range of special projects, this position offers a unique opportunity to express a range of skills, with drafting, machine tools and bench tools, in design, fabrication, restoration, finishing, as well as in wiring and assembly.  The goal of this position is to move work efficiently and accurately through multiple design and production steps with a minimum of involvement of other staff, independently documenting your work process and completed projects so they can be understood by the rest of the team. The custom fabrication, prototyping, and restoration assistant will principally take direction from the President of the company but will also make themself available to work at the direction of the head of production when and wherever extra hands are needed.

 

The Requirements of This Position:

·         An AS degree in welding or 3 years experience in practical machine shop and high end metal fabrication work with a focus on  hot-joining, machining, and sheet metal techniques for joining brass, stainless steel, mild steel and aluminum.

·         Experience in tool selection, jig set-up, material selection, setting up sequential operations, and appropriate tolerances

·         Ability to create and read drawings and respond in drawing form, communicating with engineers and fabrication staff

·         Experience in reviewing processes for optimized efficiency in material, time, and energy

·         Neatness & organization

·         High attention to detail

·         A strong work ethic specifically oriented to delivering products on time, on quality, and on budget

·         Strong, quick, computer skills, Experience with common MS office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

 

The Duties of This Position:

·         Read and interpret drawings from the engineering department

·         Create drawings by hand and in SolidWorks and/or Fusion360

·         Identify and communicate with outside vendors

·         Read estimates, relate them to work orders, plan processes and pull and prepare stock necessary to complete jobs

·         Use machine tools and hand tools, including welder and torch, to fabricate parts according to stated tolerances

·         Finishing work: complete projects through polishing and patina steps, prep parts for plating.

·         Design and construct jigs, fixtures, and processes to improve efficiency and quality

·         Inspect work with standard machine shop measuring tools to ensure quality, fit and function.

·         Maintain the tools and supplies for the machines with which you work. Keep all your work areas neat and clean.

·         Communicate suggestions for process, product, or general shop improvement to President & shop managers.

·         For antique restorations: Document and track objects as they arrive, through the restoration process, and to their display in the showrooms, in both text and images.

·         Assist in planning the restoration process of new inventory.

·         Assist in the packing and hanging/display of finished objects in the factory and in our showrooms.

·         Lift and handle heavy objects up to 40 lbs, climb ladders, and use powertools daily

·         Put yourself at the disposal of the CMO when standard production work requires extra hands.
