Description
Sattler College invites applications for a full-time instructor/professor of Biblical Greek (open rank). The professor may be asked to teach a variety of Bible courses, but the main responsibility will be to develop and teach a four-semester Koine Greek program for the College and a month-long intensive class for a summer languages institute (name TBD) that is in development. All of our students take at least one year of Greek, so this faculty member will profoundly shape the student experience.
The applicant should have experience in leading with communicative methods (TPR, TPRS), aiming for at least 90% of in-class instruction to occur in Greek and then reinforcing this knowledge with traditional grammar instruction. If students are taught effectively, those who have taken four semesters of Greek should be excited to use and advance their knowledge, especially through a daily habit of reading their Bible in Greek.
The applicant must have a master’s degree or higher, though a doctoral degree is preferred. The role also provides the opportunity to write books and generate media that we hope will advance the pedagogy of communicative Koine Greek more broadly. We are not a research university but aspire to be a thought-leading institution in the instruction of biblical languages. The position begins in the fall of 2024.
Finally, we especially seek faculty that can support the founding precepts of the College, harmonious with the beliefs of the historic Christian faith, listed on our webpage: https://sattler.edu/about-us/
The faculty member’s primary duty will be the instruction of assigned classes under the supervision of the Dean or direct supervisor. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the instructor must have the flexibility to be available for secondary duties and roles associated with College operations and growth and be committed to professional development.
