Why Students Choose Sattler College

Sattler College’s mission is to provide an education that instructs the mind, discipleship that shapes the soul, and inspiration that inflames the heart. The modern higher education system rarely tends to the yearnings of the soul, nor inspires the passions of the heart. It fails to educate young people holistically for a life well lived. It is often hostile to faith, too expensive and academically weak. We need nothing short of a revolution. Sattler College was founded upon the biblical vision of Christian discipleship that addresses the mind, soul and heart. Our goal is to enable graduates to heartily say, “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power, love and a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).

Sattler College started offerings in Fall 2018 and was accredited Fall 2021. Sattler is a four-year Christian college granting bachelor's degrees in the following majors: biblical studies, business, computer science, history, and human biology. Students choose Sattler because they want to build their faith, while also taking the next steps toward fulfilling God’s plan for their careers. Sattler students are exceptional. Last fall’s incoming students’ SAT scores averaged in the 93rd percentile. Many arrive at the college with significant cross-cultural experiences. Many have been leaders in their home communities and are eager to participate in thoughtful service in an urban environment.

Description

Sattler College invites applications for a full or part-time instructor/professor of Biblical Greek (open rank). The professor should expect to teach a variety of Bible courses, but the main responsibility will be to develop and teach the Koine Greek program. All of our students take at least one year of Greek, so this course will shape the student experience in a profound way.

The faculty member should have an interest in leading with communicative methods (TPR, TPRS), then reinforcing this knowledge with traditional grammar instruction. There are two primary metrics that this faculty position is evaluated on:

  • Students should be excited to use and advance their Greek knowledge, especially through personal reading of Scripture.
  • Students should be able to have a basic exegetical competence to discern the meaning of a text and provide evidence for a position by being able to responsibly parse words and utilize lexicons.

The applicant must have a master’s degree or higher, though a doctoral degree is preferred. The role also provides the opportunity to write books and generate media that we hope will advance the pedagogy of communicative Koine Greek more broadly. We are not a research university but aspire to be a thought-leading institution in the instruction of biblical languages. The position begins in the fall of 2023.

Finally, we especially seek faculty that can support the founding precepts of the College, harmonious with the beliefs of the historic Christian faith, listed on our webpage: http://www.sattlercollege.org/about/

The faculty member’s primary duty will be the instruction of assigned classes under the supervision of the Dean or direct supervisor. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the instructor must have the flexibility to be available for secondary duties and roles associated with College operations and growth and be committed to professional development. The faculty member must abide by and support policies set forth by Sattler College and must be committed to the College’s goals and objectives.
