About Besa
Besa is on a mission to transform the volunteer experience by bringing the community together in meaningful, impactful ways. Besa is an Albanian term that means "to keep the promise," and more than a decade into its work, Besa is keeping its promise to Central Ohio. Since launching in 2012, our agency has rallied 81,000 volunteers, giving 210,000 hours through 13,600 service projects, and it has facilitated $97M in community impact. This mission extends beyond numbers; it's about strengthening the very fabric of our community. By connecting individuals with opportunities to give back, Besa fosters a sense of unity, compassion, and shared responsibility. Through these collective efforts, we address immediate needs, build lasting relationships, and contribute to the overall well-being and resilience of our community.

About the Role
For over a decade, Besa has led the way in promoting volunteerism, building community capacity, and fostering human connections throughout Central Ohio. As we grow our reach both regionally and beyond, we are hiring a Senior Director of Operations who can transform our strategic plan into tangible, organization-wide actions. This leadership role will work in close collaboration with the CEO and the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), ensuring that all operational facets are aligned for transformative impact.

In recent years, Besa has experienced significant growth: we've doubled our budget, tripled our team size, and our community impact is swiftly approaching pre-pandemic levels. As our organization evolves, the complexity of our operational needs increases, particularly in areas of strategy execution, personnel development, and process optimization.

As our Senior Director of Operations, you will ensure that the organization runs effectively and efficiently. You will support and lead our team in their professional growth, assist in the evaluation of new business opportunities, and align with the ELT team to drive transformative impact across all areas of the agency.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Translate ideas into strategic plans, ensuring the smooth functioning of the organization as it scales.
  • Innovate and update processes to enhance team alignment and strengthen our community impact.
  • Partner and lead the ELT team in assessing new opportunities and supporting the development and execution of strategies for these new initiatives.
  • Establish metrics and benchmarks that track organizational performance, identify trends, and use insights gained from data to optimize efficiency and effectiveness across all operational facets.
  • Foster a dynamic organizational culture that empowers our team members to excel and grow.
  • Lead Human Resources, including recruitment, on-boarding, retention, and off-boarding.
  • Collaborate with the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) committee to ensure diversity is foundational to our people, processes, and strategies.
  • Manage special projects as directed by the CEO, including the implementation of the EOS Traction model.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned, contributing flexibly to the dynamic needs of the organization and furthering the overall mission of Besa.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • 5+ years of senior leadership and management experience in a growth-driven, community-based organization.
  • A proven integrator with robust experience in managing operational growth within a $2M-$5M nonprofit or social enterprise business.
  • Exceptionally skilled in strategy execution, capable of ensuring that every operational facet is synchronized with the organization’s overarching goals.
  • Experienced in evaluating new business opportunities and guiding strategic decision-making to maximize potential and alignment with organizational goals.
  • A staunch advocate for and background in team development, committed to investing in people and fostering an environment where staff can thrive.
  • Proficient in using tools & technology, including Monday, Google Drive, Microsoft Office, HRIS systems, and EOS Traction.
